Republic Polytechnic leapfrogs into S’pore record books

SINGAPORE: Students from Republic Polytechnic literally leapfrogged their way into the record books on Friday.

1,320 of them worked together to clinch the title of the highest number of participants in a leapfrog event’.

They beat the previous record of 1,197 participants which was set at the Unesco World Youth Festival in Germany.

Officials from the Guinness Book of Records and the Singapore Book of Records were present at the event which took place at the polytechnic located at Agora Lawn.

It proved to be a challenge in more ways than one.

The students began at 5.40pm but were disqualified for touching the ground with their hands and knees.

So they were given a second chance and they completed it successfully at 6.30pm.

In the traditional game of leapfrog, participants need to rest their hands on their knees without touching the ground.

And they must do this before bending, so that the other party gets to leap over.

The leapfrog record attempt was organised as part of the polytechnic’s orientation programme for its freshmen. — CNA/vm
