Singapore Airlines takes delivery of fifth A380
SINGAPORE, June 28 - Singapore Airlines <SIAL.SI>, the world's most valuable airline by stock market value, said it had received its fifth Airbus A380 superjumbo on Saturday.
The A380, the world's biggest passenger plane, will arrive in Singapore on June 29, and will ply the carrier's Singapore-London route except for the first week in August, when it will fly to Beijing to meet higher passenger traffic during the Olympics, Singapore Airlines said in a statement.
The delivery of the superjumbo comes after its maker Airbus <EAD.PA> announced in May another delay in deliveries.
The planemaker has struggled to boost production as quickly as it hoped, risking further penalty payments to airlines.
Airbus is trying to recover from two years of production delays caused by problems in installing wiring on the mammoth doubledecker planes.
Shares in Airbus parent EADS <EAD.PA> have dropped 44 percent this year while rival Boeing <BA> is down 22 percent.
Singapore Airlines said it has firm orders for another 14 A380s and options to buy six more.
