      Let's do it - Don't fill petrol on 24 JANUARY 2008
      Hi everybody,

Petrol in Pakistan Rs 17 per liter
      Malaysia Rs 18 per liter
In India it's 51 per liter

Why this difference in Asia itself? World Market CRUDE Oil is not the reason for this. It's all Gain for private owners. As we are the general public, or Common Man as R.K.Laxman wud have said, we have to raise our voice, let's rise thru Emails.

IT HAS BEEN CALCULATED THAT IF EVERYONE DID NOT PURCHASE A DROP OF PETROL FOR ONE DAY AND ALL AT THE SAME TIME, THE OIL COMPANIES WOULD CHOKE ON THEIR STOCKPILES.

AT THE SAME TIME IT WOULD HIT THE ENTIRE INDUSTRY WITH A NET LOSS OVER 4.6 BILLION DOLLARS WHICH AFFECTS THE BOTTOM LINES OF THE OIL COMPANIES.
THEREFORE "24th JANUARY " HAS BEEN FORMALLY DECLARED "STICK IT UP THEIR BEHIND "DAY AND THE PEOPLE OF THIS NATION SHOULD NOT BUY A SINGLE DROP OF PETROL THAT DAY.

THE ONLY WAY THIS CAN BE DONE IS IF YOU FORWARD THIS E-MAIL TO AS MANY PEOPLE AS YOU CAN AND AS QUICKLY AS YOU CAN TO GET THE WORD OUT. WAITING ON THE GOVERNMENT TO STEP IN AND CONTROL THE PRICES IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE REDUCTION AND CONTROL IN PRICES THAT THE ARAB NATIONS PROMISED TWO WEEKS AGO?

REMEMBER ONE THING, NOT ONLY IS THE PRICE OF PETROL GOING UP BUT AT THE SAME TIME AIRLINES ARE FORCED TO RAISE THEIR PRICES,
TRUCKING COMPANIES ARE FORCED TO RAISE THEIR PRICES WHICH AFFECTS PRICES ON EVERYTHING THAT IS SHIPPED. THINGS LIKE FOOD, CLOTHING, BUILDING SUPPLIES MEDICAL SUPPLIES ETC. WHO PAYS IN THE END? WE DO!

WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE.IF THEY DON'T GET THE MESSAGE AFTER ONE DAY, WE WILL DO IT AGAIN AND AGAIN. SO DO YOUR PART AND SPREAD THE WORD. FORWARD THIS EMAIL TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW. MARK YOUR CALENDARS AND MAKE 24 JANUARY A DAY THAT THE CITIZENS SAY "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH".

We forward so many junk email to many of our friends, now let us do it for some useful cause to cut down the price of the petrol........

REMEMBER: JANUARY 24, 2008.... NO Petrol Day...!

      Please "Think Of It ...............

    • Errr, it will never work. What will happen to the buses and taxis? And it’s not like people don’t buy petrol for 1 day the oil prices will drop drastically. Ya, but anyway, thanks for informing us.

Just in case you don't know, they are still oil and come from the same source. So it doesn't matter if it's petrol or diesel. Back to topic. I think this is a super ambious dream and it will not and cannot work.

    • it won't work becoz.... the cause it too passive.

Create a rumour, saying that the petrol that we are using here are tainted or something that Singaporeans find it disgusting, fabricate evidence and make it look so real, spread by word of mouth, thru old ppl and then internet... THEN ppl will stop pumping Mr. Green

    • looks like a worthy cause, but producers are unlikely to dip their prices over a one day stake out because consumer cannot substitute gasoline with anything else, only they hold the supplies to gasoline and in a game of attrition consumers more likely to lugi...

maybe a longer period of petrol abstinence would be more probable?

    • Don't work one la ...

Crude oil commodities trading on Quarterly in a year basis , meaning they forecast 3 months in advance .

What we did that in one day , will not effective .

Only can minimised the effect .

      Very minimum effect .

Anyway it's a good exercise ...exercising the power of the people .

Sadly human is selfish .... Crying or Very sad

    • If people pump more the day before, already defeat the purpose. Laughing

No car day? They also "support" in the name of protecting the "environment", but more like free advertising for them. It does not affect them a lot. Laughing

    • If all drivers collectively just support a specific petrol brand, thus leading to other brands, esp the 'market leaders aka frequent price setters' having an excess, the petrol price would prob take a dip.

If drivers can put off their brand loyalty and take such a measure, the oligopolistic nature of the 'petrol cartel' should subside.

its not about believing the email. it's about taking the idea from the email and putting it into action. juz tot that other forums have people pledging to do it tomorrow.. but small numbers will not make a large impact so the word has to be spread to everyone else so that more people will participate..

anyhow, nobody here seems to be supportive and that in itself will ensure it will fail. sigh.

agreed. but do you think sgporeans can really stand together to take this fight to the petrol companies?

The largest network is EXXONMOBIL. if someone were to propose a 3 month boycott of their stations islandwide, would everyone follow? What would it take to get every sg car driver to NOT pump exxonmobil and perhaps make a long drive to find another station just to support this?

Firstly, I wont be topping up tmr as I wont be driving tmr. That aside, it serves no purpose really... Those who are die hard supporters of this 'campain' will pump their petrol the day before or after which equates to the same amount of petrol being sold.

Futhermore, how many people actually read this message? How are you going to reach those driving lorries, those hawkers etc who dont go online?

If you had been ordered by your boss to deliver a document and you run out of petrol, do you leave your car at the roadside and jog to the destination?

We are not being unsupportive, just more sensible.

P.S. Those figures stated in the mail may not even be facts at all.

hmm true that it wont affect the eventual $$ earned by them.. but read carefully.. the purpose of the 1 day boycott is to hurt their STOCKPILING.

    • .. and they will start work on building bigger storage tanks and then pass the cost to the consumer...

the only way to "drive the cost down" is to reduce demand..

Do you think that its going to hurt their stock piling just because LESSER people pump petrol on ONE day? Thats very unlikely. And so what even it really happens? They pile up and the next day everyone rushes to get their petrol and they earn back every cent (eg: loses 4.6billion one day, earn an additional 4.6billion another). Worst comes to worst, since the stock piling is hurting their profit, they can easily go on another price increase to cover this lost. So who is going to be hurt now?
