    • A green-haired leopard named Zakumi

Zakumi represents the people, geography and spirit of South Africa, personifying in essence the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

Hopefully the place is safe for soccer fans by 2010.

    • Better Safe than sorry attitudes.

Responding to queries on emails and text messages that have been circulating warning the public to avoid food items like M and M's chocolates and oreo biscuits,

the AVA stressed that it is only suspending the import and sale of milk and milk related products from China.

So as long as the label on a Snickers chocolate bar for instance, doesn't say 'Made in China', it's safe to consume it.

      But err...

    • Good News! Less risk for our soldiers.

      Military could train in iFly

      The Straits Times

      By Jermyn Chow

SINGAPORE'S first skydiving simulator on Sentosa meant for thrillseekers could become a training facility for the military.

The company that is building the world's largest vertical wind tunnel - called the iFly Singapore - says it may have a solution for the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) paratroopers to polish their skills more effectively and efficiently.

The six-storey tall (17m) and 5m-wide wind tunnel could more than halve the time spent on parachute training, said the chief executive officer of SkyVenture Singapore, Mr Lawrence Koh, a former military freefaller himself.

    • The North Koreans clearly did not honour their words of putting off Weapons of Mass Destruction!

Satellite shows second North Korea missile site
Analyst: It suggests intent to develop nuclear threat against U.S.

This satellite image taken on June 22 shows part of what analysts says is a new long-range missile base in North Korea.

WASHINGTON - North Korea has quietly built a long-range missile base that is larger and more capable than an older and well-known launch pad for intercontinental ballistic missiles, according to independent analysts relying on new satellite images of the site and other data. Analysts provided images of the previously secret site to The Associated Press.

Construction on the site on North Korea's west coast began at least eight years ago, according to Joseph S. Bermudez, Jr., senior analyst with Jane's Information Group, and Tim Brown with Talent-keyhole.com, a private satellite imagery analysis company. Bermudez first located the site in early spring and they have tracked its construction using commercial and unclassified satellite imagery.

"The primary purpose of the facility is to test," Bermudez told The Associated Press in an interview last week. A base capable of a long-range test could obviously be used in wartime to launch a missile that carried a warhead.(AP news)

    • If PAP is balls enough, they should show the world that they are confident of winning any by-election anywhere!

Since Dr Ong pass away making the GRC an MP short, the ruling party/Government should make the estate a single seat ward and compete for by-election.

Trust me PAP will still win back the seat one lah.

    • Retention bonus for police ONLY?!!!
      ST

JUNIOR police officers will get a retention bonus this year as part of measures to keep them in the force in their first eight years of service, said Home Affairs Minister Wong Kan Seng.

Mr Wong said recruitment and retention of these young officers has been adversely affected by the tighter labour market.

Since 2004, the Singapore Police Force (SPF) has lost many police officers - from 221 in 2004 to 332 in 2007, a 50 per cent increase.

Lots of Soldiers have quit their job too...

    • JENNY (not her real name) is struggling to pay off the loans under her name and has to borrow money from friends to buy a meal. She gave more than RM70,000 to a Casanova, who took advantage of her grief after her mother's death.

The 35-year-old met "Andy" at her mother's funeral in Kuala Lumpur. He was with a friend and after the funeral, they kept in touch by phone and email.

A year later, the 48-year-old man moved to Kuala Lumpur to look for a job and be closer with Jenny.

"I was not interested in a relationship. I'd never had a boyfriend and was still mourning my mother," said Jenny.

"But Andy was so supportive. And after a few months of courtship, I agreed to make a down payment on a taxi."

Initially, Andy worked hard and paid the instalments. But as months went by, he worked less and ran out of money.

"When he could not meet the payments, he started borrowing from me. At first, it was small amounts like RM100.

"But they got bigger and bigger. We used to fight over money."

Jenny was suspicious at first but Andy's sweet words always melted her heart, and she gave in to him.

"He never raised his voice when he was angry. He was very sweet and caring, especially after an argument."

Her family thought he was a "good catch" but she never met any of his friends or relatives.

Andy talked about marriage many times and even persuaded her to get registration forms.

"But he always backed out at the last minute. Usually, he used his financial situation as an excuse.

"To solve that problem, he convinced me to take a loan. He said the banks had blacklisted him and he could not apply for one."

Jenny took a personal loan of RM40,000 and pawned some of her jewellery. She did not tell her family because she knew they would not agree.

After settling his "debts", Andy moved to a new job in Johor Baru but returned to visit every month.

"He never gave me his address in Johor Baru, even though I asked many times.

"After two months, he asked me to take another loan. This time, it was for RM30,000. I had to pay RM700 a month to settle the loan. That was half of my salary," she said.

After the second loan, Andy's visits became less frequent. He told Jenny he was busy.

Eventually, he stopped coming. It's been a year since Jenny last saw him. All his phone lines have been cut.

Jenny said there were many warning signs but she was blinded by love.

"I heard from a friend that Andy was seen with a girl in Penang. He was also spotted in Johor Baru with a different girl."

Anyone had a similar experience before?

I have a feeling that SBS will start removing non-profitable route, encouraging communters to transfer services thus increasing their revenue.

SINGAPORE is expected to take delivery of its first F-15 Eagle fighter early next year, said a senior Boeing Company official on Friday.

'The F-15SGs are in production and we hope to have the first one rolled out in November this year.

'Singapore will take delivery of the first one early next year,' said Mr Jim Albaugh, the president and chief executive of Boeing Integrated Defense Systems.

Mr Albaugh, who is here to attend the Shangri-La Dialogue, told reporters that the production was 'coming along very well.

Singapore has ordered 24 F-15SGs, the latest variant of the all-weather, multi-role fighter that has chalked up an impressive combat record of 101 victories and zero losses around the globe.

The twin-seat fighters are being assembled at Boeing's F-15 production plant in St Louis, Missouri, in the United States.

Some of the aircraft will be stationed at a US base in Mountain Home, Idaho, where the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) pilots and ground crew will be trained.

The purchase of the advanced strike jets was announced in 2005 after the defence and aviation giant beat rivals in the US, Russia and Europe.
