    • LN, OMG stop lar.

SAR conversion havent even settle - dont even talk about SAR21+GL! SSW is not even in the picture. Some projects will be scrap - just because they build a prototype does not mean they will continue with it despite discovering it to be unfeasible.

(Remember 1 SAF Head honcho mention our tanks will fire only missile? cost + practicality accounts for more luckily.)

As to the 3GL, do you even understand the implications of THAT system or did you just read the advantages?  The 3GL in its current form is too limited in application (not like you know how to apply it anyway)

Take a look at the 3GL video...see how the guy stand, fire  - the recoil(too big), the accuracy(too low)?  Do you when real rounds are whizzing you have that kind of liberty to shoot in that manner?

The only interesting thing i find to have immediate application about the Metalstorm is the 40mm Enhanced Blast grenade.

    • ST,  to be honest, all my buddies and myself agree. 3G Army still far far away for the rNSmen...we are at best 2.5G SAF now

    • LN, please dont talk about the Mech Igla. You have NO idea how it ACTUALLY works or is employed. Dont make me grief.

Have you even seen where they tested the IGLA and how it performed?

BTW do you know where the radar of the Mech IGLA comes from?

    • Against WHAT birds would the newly purchased AA be deployed against?

Where is the nearest airfield with a credible strike airforce based?

No immediate threats via air = no need for comprehensive AD umbrella.

Aussies are smart and know where to spend their money.

Buy new AD system to shoot at flying penguins is it.

gripen is a smaller aircraft - radar is less powerful. Even though its rcs is smaller, but with the more powerful radar - F-15 would still see it first, and shoot first using BVR missile.

No lar not bells and whistles. I'm not fighter pilot so i dont what to describe things that happens to the screen/radar/whatevernot due to EW.

    • While the F-15's RCS is relatively bigger, the gripen has to turn on his radar with all the sparkles and try to look for the F-15 while the F-15 just relies on passive feed on the AWACS for directing and targetting, who do you think will get to shoot first?

      Systems before platforms.

As much as I would like to believe the new guided shell fired from 76 OTO gun is a good anti-missile weapon, I still strongly believe in a wall of lead principle. Otherwise, why would the USN, RoKN and JSDF Navy continue to employ Phalanx?

I can accept that SeaRAM as a replacement of Phalanx, but at the current state of the Formidable weaponary, I just find that it is a little short and last ditch hit-to-kill measures in place.

Only thing i want to know is, under what kind of scenario, will you be able to successfully target 5 missiles on a formidable without getting yourself kicked in the face with Aster / Harpoon/ Whitehead first.

    • What i dont like about the multi round grenade launcher is that unless you are willing to log around 3 rounds everywhere you go, there is no difference(minus no casing to unload). Which preparation, you have the time to load in 3 rounds and that's the advantage.

I highly suspect that we have a thermobaric type weapon, It's the enhanced blast 40mm grenade. ST just renames it to avoid controversies.

    • F-15SGs are to replace the A-4s.

F-35s which (should be procured in 2014 or later) will be taking over the F-16s role.  F-16 will then take over the F-5s role.

    • 76mm gun is designed to be anti missile last ditch. That's the reason it's a Super Rapid version churning out 2 rounds a second.

In other news, targetting, targetting, targetting. If you cant find the target, dont talk about how big the missile is.

    • the starburst might be outdated for as a vshorad, but it's a heck of a weapon when used against armour..

    • Aiyah, dont count the single eggs. Look at the numbers as a whole. How big is the unit going to be? That’s the strategic view and that’s what matters for the people higher up.

    • When he said DEPTH, he meant DEPTH. The enemy's depth.

      He doesnt mean deep.

It's a military term for use when you are "higher up" when you hold a command position.

       I.E. not you.

      It's a statement of fact.

The enemy's depth is the "rear of the enemy." Where the generals are, where their artillery guns are, where their logistics are.

It just means that we can reach the enemy where he thinks is a "safe" place.

Cutting off the snake's head, removing the tiger's teeth and kicking a giant's leg from under him.

      Edit: i'm emo today.

    • Aiya this is a situation where people read too many high tech magazines and arent down to earth. -Missiles- fired by fighter jets to shoot down these "fliers"?

Back to basics: Ack Ack Guns. Cheap and good. In the air, on the ground, turns meat into mush.

    • 1) This new armour upgrade will weight under 60 tons. IOW, no problem

      2) This new armour set is like lego.  When you want to use it, put it on. When you dont, take it off.
