    • Had planned for a trip to Spain with my gf sometime in May. Had everything planned untill swee swee. Then this lousy spanish airline called Vueling emailed me to say that they will move the flight forward by a day.

Like that now everything screw up liao. Hostels all booked liao. All other conecting flights booked liao.

I feel like biting off the heads of everyone in Vueling. WARGHH!

    • Q2)

Let the 10V thingy be Vs. 10ohm resistor be r10, 9ohm resistor be r9.

According to Kirchoff's current law, iunknown =0A

First look at the loop on the right.

      current through r10=1A(anticlockwise)

      voltage drop across r10=Ri=10V

Next look at the loop on the left.

      current through r9=1A (anticlockwise)

      voltage drop across r9=Ri=9V

      voltage across Is1=19V

      therefore power across Is1=Vi=19W

    • It's been a while since I last touched this.

      Hope it's right!

      Q1)

      current is 1A throughout

      clockwise:

voltage across resistor V=RI=14V (voltage drop)

      voltage across Vs=3V (increase)

      voltage across Is=11V (increase)

power given off by resistor = I2R=14W

      power "absorbed" by Vs=VI=3W

      power "absorbed" by Is=VI=11W

(not sure if my interpretation of absorb is right)

    • If I'm not wrong, the common fire we see is merely heated gas that glows. Plasma, by definition, is an 'ionized gas', which means it can be deflected by magnetism or electric charges. Unless temperature is so high as to ionize the gas, nope ur flame is not plasma.

Your candle is not powerful enough.

    • Clinton will probably clinch the nomination. Unless all the college students come out and vote for Obama.

on a different note, look out for Ron Paul in the New Hampshire primaries.
I think McCain will win the Republican nomination but I secretly hope Paul will instead. Ron Paul is the only honest guy among all the candidates on both sides, and he really talks about what's important. All the other 9-11, abortion, religion, immigrations issues are just populist issues that sound fanciful.

And I love the fact that Ron Paul reminds me of my GP in toapayoh. Smile

    • Hi TS. I suppose you're around 18/19 of age and have just completed your JC life? I'm not from NUS med, but I was from the trip-science fac of a certain JC that recently moved to Bishan, so I have lots of friends in med. from what I hear:

      1) So the rumour goes. They split the candidates into 4 levels according to grades, or whatever other indicators. The top-tier candidates are accepted; the second tier ones are NOT accepted so that other industries and the scholarship boards have some pple to choose from; the third tier candidates are accepted; and the bottom they keep for appeal or reject. This is why we had lots of rather good students who failed to get into NUS med - they were the second tier ones. And mind you, we're easily talking about 4As for the 3rd tier candidates even, so there're actually quite a few things out of your control here.

      2) Since you're a foreign student, you will not need to do NS. Write to all the hospitals in Singapore and intern there. Get a good recommendation letter etc etc. This few months will give u the edge over the other candidates.

      3) For essays, interviews, etc. Just do your best. I've got quite a few friends who don't seem to be that great at interviews either but they still got through.

      4) Most important point. At age 18 or 19, you do not have any idea of what you want to do in the future. Believe me. None of us believed other pple when they told us that when when we were in your shoes. Not getting into Med does not mean the end of everything. I've seen lots of cases like this. Pple move on and end up in meaningful courses and careers even when they didn't get their 1st choice.

      Yup all the best!

      You are The Sun

      Happiness, Content, Joy.

The meanings for the Sun are fairly simple and consistent.

Young, healthy, new, fresh. The brain is working, things that were muddled come clear, everything falls into place, and everything seems to go your way.

The Sun is ruled by the Sun, of course. This is the light that comes after the long dark night, Apollo to the Moon's Diana. A positive card, it promises you your day in the sun. Glory, gain, triumph, pleasure, truth, success. As the moon symbolized inspiration from the unconscious, from dreams, this card symbolizes discoveries made fully consciousness and wide awake. You have an understanding and enjoyment of science and math, beautifully constructed music, carefully reasoned philosophy. It is a card of intellect, clarity of mind, and feelings of youthful energy.

      What Tarot Card are You?
Take the Test to Find Out.

    • Anyone familiar with that area? Dongguan in Guangdong, PRC. Next to Shenzhen or something.

I need to go there sometime in August.

    • well, story behind it?

when it happened, the 2 main questions on our mind were 'how' and 'why'. 'how' is relatively simple to answer. yeah, she hanged herself. it's the 'why' that i, as her ex-classmate, ex-cca mate and ex-project mate is still trying to find out. we have no answers.

she had everything going for her - good family, good financial circumstances, good friends (she was a great friend of everyone), good results, fantastic personality. definitely the most popular girl of the class.

perhaps there were some other circumstances i wasn't not aware of. she probably left a note for her family and some closer friends. i tell myself it's probably due to depression.

but that is really immaterial at this point in time.

i remember the priest at the church telling us how we should remember her for who she was when she was alive and not that one specific incident where she ended her life. but it's really hard, seeing the misery and pain she's been inflicting on her mother all these years.

you really pity the mother and there's nothing you can do. after all, we only remind her of the happy past and tragic present.

so to all who have even contemplated suicide, don't even think twice or thrice. go talk to someone, call SOS, whatever. because it may be the end for you, but only the start of a lifetime of sadness for you family and friends.

      yup.

    • well i had a friend who killed herself.

the thing is, it's really not about her anymore. in some ways, she probably felt the least pain.

her mum's still a shadow of her old self after all these years. we, her friends, don't talk about it anymore. it still feels a little unsettling even as i'm typing this.

so pls don't be curious. it's really not about you, but the people who care about you.

      yup.
