    • the russkies are destroying the georgian military infrastructure currently, (from straits times) .. not sure if its because of the media.. but it seems that russia is pushing it.

much media about this issue have been pro-georgian right?

perhaps with the decimation of much of the georgian military equipment, georgia would be able to reorganise their supplies or smth...

the straits times commented that NATO countries are "weak and poorly armed" to what extent is that true? would NATO be able to react in any significant manner to retaliate against the russians? lets say if they start doing the same to the others too....

sorry for saying so much, its the common test period, so i hardly have time to post... just my 2 cents (though i still read everyday, thank gosh its chinese tml! = nth to study)

    • from what i know, there was talk some time back in the US abt r&d into this area of devlopment, however, didnt recieve any updates, apparently, it was found that airships were much more efficient than aircraft, being able to transport huge amounts of cargo at a time, however they are also highly vulenerable to unpredictable weather situations

yea, air ballon for radar platform was out already, in usa again... economical way to have a awacs up 24/7

    • hmm..

i would think that the use of snow gloves with the sar 21 wouldnt be very often... unless youre based in some snow area course.

the issue here perhaps should be if snowglove-compatibility should be a main concern on the sar-21?

    • aircraft carriers seem to be uneccesary. our situation doesnt warrant one really. i guess the most we can go would be to base f-35 type aircrafts on the endurances as breif attachements, (to demonstrate that we have the capability ?)

but however not for long-term power projection purposes.

it sort of reminds me of the australian amphib ship thingy...superbugs on a crate.....

2 engines (A) are better than 1(B) of course lar.

if in A, you lose an engne, you still can fly back to fight another day....

in B, you lose an engine... bye bye... quite a waste of pilots eh?

(they flew directly overhead..) both in and out... not sure if its the same one though. is this related to any recent activities in the region (eg exercises etc?) ? or just normal operations...curious lar.

note: spotted gray c-130s too.. seem to be USAF

just wondering...does having the lcd screen exposed to sunlight daily damage it? cos currently its sited next to a window ( as in perpendicular) so it recieves quite a lot of sunlight on the screen.

And the 76mm is a AA gun. It is actually more effective against air targets than surface targets from first-hand accounts. This gun handles 2 main types of rounds, the MOM and SAPOM round, the former being a flak type and the latter being armour-piercing type.

And always overlooked, understandably, the .5MG is also a last-ditch weapon against air targets.

So an overview of missile defence includes, AMM (anti-missile missile), chaff, 76mm, 20mm, 0.5". In my opinion it should be enough to ward off most missile attacks.

well, i doubt .5mg can be really counted as AA weapon lar... at least not anti-missile.... dont think it can engage fast enough to ht the missile.. unless it is a prop plane or smth..or a kite...

think that .5mg may be called more of as a gen purpose gun for shooting at random stuff that tries to kill you (smth like a small knife lar), but i wont trust a .5mg to stop the missile...

    • lets say in a battlefield scenario, which weapon would you want to carry?

for me, it would be the m16+m203, seems to have the greatest firepower at your fingertips,

      like to hear opinions though

perhaps post one from the saf inventory, and one from the universal inventory?

    • its true that if you put a battleship right next to the most advanced warship today, the battleship will blow it away, however, there is the issue of getting your battleship there... with regards to that, battleships are not really at home in today's naval environment, with the advent of more lethal and longer ranged weapons.

if you ask me, what i would prefer would be a navy based on larger ships (etc destroyers and lpds) supported by a base of smaller, "mosquito" vessels. having the ability to sting hard and disrupt the enemy. in my view, this can't be acheived by aircraft carriers or battleships for singapore, as they would be a huge drain on resources, and would be rather restricted in their operations, and rendered heavily vulenerable, due to the prescence of multiple chokepoints around us, losing one would mean we lose the whole war....

just my 2 cents worth of thoughts over the past 5 mins.
