No matter how you change, the link to your avatar is the same.
Whenever we search for a site, we will go through our proxy server first, if the address is the same, the server will provide us with what we need instead of requesting from external server.
An analogy:
I go www.somesite.com/images.jpg and the pic is not in our proxy server.
Proxy server request from remote server and display to me.
Someone go update the images.jpg to some other things.
I go www.somesite.com/images.jpg again, but this time my proxy server have this pic.
The proxy server showed me instead of requesting from external server again.
