Originally posted by TTFU:Part of the reason Christians are so dead set on their belief is that piece of hope that they cling to. That in the kingdom of heaven lies an eternal kingdom, one that will not falter, because it is perfect, because the ruler God is perfect. Which made me concluded that people such as those who believe in Abrambic religions yearn for dictatorship (in a netural way).
How does one know if heaven or hell exists in the form described in the bible? How do we even know if there is after life? Humans all have this fear of the unknown. It is the same fear we have when we walk pass a tombstone in the middle of the night.
Credit though must go to those individuals several thousand years ago who capitalised on this basic human instinct and fear, codified their thoughts into a book, channeled this fear of heaven or hell concept into a religion, and made members pay a monthly fee in exchange for a more assured after life.
Fear of afterlife is a recurrent theme in almost all ancient civilizations. I really applaud those few famous individuals who successful used their charisma and oratorical skills to build a mass of followers who will in turn propagate their teachings for eternity. Its natural that people do not want to be forgotten when they die. Those few individuals who created a religion must be the most successful at this. They will be remembered for eternity using the concept of God as a proxy.
what good is this god if he brings all those who do not believe in him to hell?
its like a freaking threat!

the worse part is they believe if you believe in god because god chooses you and if you do not believe in god, that means you are not chosen by god . that is to say god chooses who suppose to go to heaven and who suppose to go to hell.
anyway, i read a book recently, you know what it says ? everybody discusses about god, says god says this and that but till today god did not say anything in person to us. very true.

A christian friend bullies by christians around him told me that if those nasty evil christians all go up to heaven he does not want to go heaven. hahahha

To the christians God speak to them through sermons, friends, families, relatives, bible, dream or something happen.
Sometimes when I ask them they cannot confirm it is God speaking.

ok, this is becoming quite amusing.
Let's assume this god exists ok, for the sake of argument- What good is bringing you to heaven if you don't believe in him (to believe in him also means that you would have a meaningful personal relationship with him and that he loves you and has the best for you, etc...), because that would be hell for you then?
Can you imagine spending an eternity with someone whom you don't love? Praising him for his goodness, singing about mercies, talking to him... doing all these when you don't love him? (horrors!) Sounds hellish ...

precisely, if thats the case, i shall willingly go to hell. what is heaven when you live with someone youll never believe in?
to be fair to this unknown figure called 'god', it is his followers (some of them) tainting his name, blackmailing known non followers that we will burn in hell.
anyone watched the show 'left behind' before? my friend showed it to be years back, and that movie is a classic example of threat. tapping on human weaknesses, those who are afraid of suffering that 'tribulation'.

You mean the need for authority ?

What you said is right, its humans that caused all these shit. Religion itself is intangible. Thats why the idea of heaven comes, who wants to go to hell ? I bet no one. Thats why.
why would u worry about something that you dont believe in?
i mean
the reason why u're not a christian is cuz u dont believe in jesus, god etc.
so naturally u wont believe in the christians' concepts of hell and heaven what.
edit:
ok so u ish xtian.
im not so i dun tink i will go to hell just i dont believe in god.

angry and then break his finger?
lol but aiya
i'll prolly feel nth.
but then again maybe hell's not as bad as wat people say or in the stories la.
at least u dont need to study in hell.
hahaha.
It comes back to people preeching others to join and bla bla hell. I am now wondering is it really correct. Remember free will ? Christian institutions that are shoving their beliefs down others throats. Was it meant to be that way ? because approaching God is not something that can be forced, but one that is made of one's own free will.

God isn't a solely Christian concept.

From my understanding, Having perfect example (aka Jesus Christ) is so that the Christians would have
something to follow. Nobody can argue that Jesus was a harmful
influence in any way, whether or not because history has thrown away
his bad side or not does not matter, because having an example like him
makes the so-called Christians today strive to be better than they are.
To become more than what they are.

That's why I said they yearn for dictatorship (the term in a netural way).

Thats because humans are failable creatures, thats why they need something in-failable. All these is a means to come an end. It promotes productivity, it promotes progress, it promotes peace after all the opposing sides are silenced.

You talking about PAP? Lol, kidding....I understand why they yearn for dictatorship but I don't like it that's just my opinion. No offense to you.

Actually you are right. Religion is related to Politics/ the government. During the Dark Ages, the church was so tied into politics and more or less was the local government, in most cases it should not be nor should it ever.
Anyway i am also not a christain. All these just serve as a exchange of information.
Benevolent Despotism.
