  City Harvest Church under investigation by CAD and Commissioner of Charities

  The Office of the Commissioner of Charities (COC) and the Commercial Affairs Department (CAD) are investigating some financial transactions involving several individuals and companies related or connected to the City Harvest Church (CHC).
  
  This was after the COC had received complaints of misuse of church funds and informed the CAD.
  
  The CAD had assessed that it may need to investigate some of these financial transactions.
  
  A joint statement by the COC and Police on said CAD officers visited the offices of the individuals and the companies under investigation on Monday morning.
  
  Records and accounts were secured for the purpose of the investigations.
  
  The CAD and CAD have assured that despite the ongoing investigations, the normal services and religious activities of the City Harvest Church need not be disrupted and can continue for its congregation.
  
  The CHC was founded in 1989 by Pastor Kong Hee. According to its website, it has 47 affiliate churches in 2009, 29 of which comes under the direct supervision of CHC. The remaining 18 come under the Harvest School of Ministry led by Rev. George Ong.
  
  In 2001, CHC built a 2,300-seater, titanium-clad church complex in Jurong West Street 91 for $48,000,000.
  
  In March this year, CHC announced it is paying $310 million to become a co-owner of Suntec Singapore - this includes the cost of acquiring shares in the consortium which owns 80 per cent of a joint venture fund that owns Suntec Singapore.

  i wouldn't be too happy just yet.

  the Govt could be doing a ''fake'' investigation and then clear the pastor of any wrongdoing.

  reason is this is a mega church and the tens of thousands of members will be difficult to handle if the pastor is found guilty of any monetary abuse.

  the PAP will be afraid the followers will vote against them and also influence other Christians to vote against PAP.

  in any case, i'm hoping that the pastor and wife will finally be brought to justice.

  I doubt the govt will be afraid or anything.  If they are, then it is no good.  What if one fine day Kong Hee decides to take over the parliament or at least a few seats?  Govt is going to give way too, just cuz they have ten over thousand members.

  I have not heard of the affiliated church though.  But I must say our Govt is making it too easy for such mega church to build.  What do you need to be a head of such organisation?  Register as a society.  That's all you need.  A stringent control must be put in place to control such occurence.  After all, every religious group whether christian or nonchristian has an extensive level of influence on their followers.

  god is my dog (why this kind of nick?) has a point

  after the communist insurgency ins 50s and 60s, Singapore gahmen has no history of making arrest of any leaders of a massed group

  this is a case study of how effective gahmen is in subjugating cults

  if PAP really do go after these 2 fellas, then it's an election ploy !!! i doubt the letters from church members requesting an investigation were at all real.

   

  anyway, what i wouldn't give to see those 2 in prison garb !!!!

   

  then the next target would be NCC, eh ? PAP should've struck at those 2 at one go so NCC got no chance to ''doctor'' their books !

   

  the look on all those church members' faces when pastors of CHC and NCC were put away would be PRICELESS !!! what a rude wake-up call !
