I am only asking you, since you warn about personal pride, whether atheists are guilty of that when they portray themselves as Brights or more rational than people who have religious beliefs. I note that you have steered away from answering this.

Wa ah lau. No need 5 tries.
1 try jackpot already la!
Originally posted by BroInChrist:I beg to differ. I think from what's going on in forums like these, it is more true that Christians are the easiest to pick on, because those who bash the Christian faith know they wouldn't get hit back, since they know Christians are somehow supposed to be so loving and docile and always turning the other cheek, ya? And of course if the Christian does demolish their objections they can always play the guilt trip and ask "Oh where's the love? So critical and so judgemental one!"
We dont pick on Christians who are supposed to be "loving and docile", sorry to say, that assumption is way wrong.
We dont pick on you guys. U guys put yourself on the field with targets on your back when you guys hang the christian faith and lambast others who dont believe in it.
I dont see buddist coming up and say "you dont pray to buddah, you will go to hell." This kind of statements deserve nothing more than being shot down in all directions.
Refer to this poster:
That being said, I believe in a God out there, I just refuse to classify it under any religion.
If there is a take away from this post for you, it will be: No religion is more superior than the other.
If you gonna whip out your bible and argue otherwise, please let me refer you back to the poster alittle higher in this posting.
TYVM.

So are u saying all Christians do that, or are you being another of those people who just generalise ?

Its not a game
I am not ignorant the fact christians speak of themselves as know-it-better just because they believe in god

I'm refering to the specific Chrisitans who keep questioning people who dont hold the same religious views as them.
My cousin are Christians but they dont preach and talk about it, that's 100% cool with me.

2. Which part of "A federal court of appeals ruled yesterday Wisconsin prison officials violated an inmate's rights because they did not treat atheism as a religion. Atheism is [the inmate's] religion, and the group that he wanted to start was religious in nature even though it expressly rejects a belief in a supreme being, the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals said." do you not understand?
3. Thanks for admitting that you are consciously REJECTING the idea of God/gods altogether. That's what atheism means, and that's what I am saying!
1. You are the one committing genetic fallacy and not being objective. You refuse to accept the current meaning in the current context of atheism and instead try to use a false defintion from an irrelevant origin.
2. Oh yes the US court did rule atheism as a religion but it doesnt make it a universal truth automatically. You assume too much and too quickly.
3. Yup you too. Dont you also reject the idea of God/Gods too other than your own? You are also part atheist

laurence,
Just tell me, who are the people who call themselves the Brights? I give you a hint: http://www.the-brights.net/
Christians who know God don't claim to be intellectually superior than anyone else. It is the atheist who thinks that it is a smart thing to reject belief in God and that only dull-minded people (the non-Brights) believe in God and all sorts of religious things.

motoway,
Have you ever tried asking your cousins why they don't preach and talk about Christianity even though Jesus commanded it?

Talking about obeying the Bible and what Jesus commands!
Wow.
BIC, are you sure you obey ALL of the bible's commands too?
If you dont, then why are you pinpointing other christians not obeying jesus' commands?
Answer me, are you sure you obey ALL of the bible's commands too?

motoway,
I wonder if you even stop to think that your poster is far more offensive than saying that nonbelievers would end up in hell. People can cordially debate the notion about whether hell exists or whether nice people should go to hell. But your poster is designed to insult and inflame people and cause ill will. I suggest you remove it unless you relish kopi time with you-know-who.
Hey BIC
Any response for my replies?

Tcmc,
Wow, you are really looking forward to my postings eh?
I'm not morally perfect so I will never say that I have obeyed ALL of the Bible's moral commandments. No where does the Bible teaches that Christians to be morally perfect in order to encourage another Christian to follow the Bible and obey God's commands. If this is a condition then it makes a mockery of the Bible's command that we exhort each other to be obedient to God's Word. Christians have feet of clay and all walk the same paths and face the same temptations and have personal moral failures. But having said that, it is one thing to have moral failures while working out our salvation with fear and trembling, it is quite another to not even talk or preach the Gospel to anyone in complete wilful disobedience to what God said. I mean, if motoway's cousins don't preach the Gospel to him because he has already slammed the door in their face before, that I can understand. But if he is telling me that his cousins do not even preach to anyone, then I think this is a problem. Agree or not? What does your Bible study tell you?

Yea I miss you and your answers.
So you admit you dont obey all of the bible commandments too.
So instead of pinpointing other christians not obeying the commandments, why dont you try to look at yourself first?
Jesus says "Hey mate, look at the plank in your eye first before you point out others' plank".
That is humility, for christians.
Please reply to the other post in this topic too, if you have responses

Tcmc,
At the very least I can say that you and some others are seriously pissed off at me obeying the command to share the Bible and engaging in evangelism on this forum, ya?

At the same time, when you try to be so righteous i n"obeying jesus", you break other commandments of "doing unto others what you want others to do unto you" and also to "look at your own plank in the eye first" and also "to love your neighbour".
You do one, but break 3. Wow

You brag about the poster being here to stay but you wouldn't dare post it in forums which have greater awareness from the public. As for me I don't think I am guilty of anything.
I see nothing wrong with that poster. It uses coarse language, but otherwise the message is fair. It reminds me of the popular saying "Opinions are like assholes -- everyone's got one." It sounds like an insult, but it's just a crude analogy.
Also, I've seen it posted on more popular forums like Hardwarezone. Haven't seen anyone carted off to the ISD for that yet.
this is why we should suppress people like BIC, including religious evangelism
they think they are ok because they are protected under this 'shield' called religion

The qualifier is the word "yet". And you even agree that it sounds like an insult, then it most probably is, whether crude or not. You may think you have more tolerance for crude language used on religion, but another person may not. So if you or anyone here wants to take your chances with the authorities, be my guest. I don't suppose motoway would dare air this "fair message" poster in bus-stops or publish it in newspapers. Would you encourage it? If not, why not?
