Liverpool jettison defender Pellegrino
LONDON, June 17 (Reuters) - Argentine defender Mauricio Pellegrino has been released by European champions Liverpool, the club said on Friday.
The 33-year-old centre half was signed on short-term deal from manager Rafa Benitez's old club Valencia in January and played 12 Premier League games for the club.
A substitute appearance for Valencia in the early rounds of the Champions League made Pellegrino ineligible to take part in Liverpool's triumphant European Cup campaign.
Pellegrino was twice on the losing side in a Champions League final with Valencia but came on as late substitute when the club won the UEFA Cup in 2004. -
hey u cant say thts a good news.. we muz respect him ah..i think pelle has done really well for liverpool... maybe not on the pitch but definitely in the backgrounds.
lets think of the liverpool defence b4 he came in.. it was really scary when there was set piece from the opposition.. but after he came in... our defence was much more reliable when it comes to set pieces... so i think he is not used as a player on the pitch but instead as a player hu can help to guide the players during training..
if he was appointed as a coach.... tht will be nice -
to remain competitive it is only right that liverpool offload defenders that lack pace.

I would more happy if Josemi is GONE.
Now, Finnan is in trouble with the law for driving his BIG CAT CAR and killing some old man.
Josemi would be staying in Anfield to replace Finnan.
If Pelle cost Liverpool a few points, consider what Josemi have done for Liverpool, Pelle is small fry liao. -
josemi hardly proved his worth. finnan is a much better bet.

Pellegrino never looked comfortable at the back...his lack of pace was exposed on far too many occasions..
but i respect him as a professional..he's a winner.Pity he's 33 and losing pace.
It's not exactly good news that he's gone...but its good to know that Rafa's a pragmatic coach, not sentimental.
