Skysports.com understands that Liverpool have succeeded in hijacking Everton's move for Valencia star Mohamed Sissoko.
The Mali international midfielder had seemed poised to join Everton after The Toffees had thrashed out a €7.4 million deal with their Spanish counterparts.
Sissoko was preparing to fly to Goodison Park to put the finishing touches to the deal, but, as had been predicted in some quarters, Liverpool have sneaked in and trumped their Merseyside rivals with a counter-offer.
Rafa Benitez is a confirmed admirer of the 20-year-old having signed him for Valencia two years' ago from Auxerre.
The Reds boss submitted an €8 million offer for the African and Sissoko has decided that a move to Anfield is more appealing.
His agent Jose Segui confirmed the news, telling skysports.com: "Valencia have taken the decision (to sell to Liverpool) and Momo is happier now."
Sissoko is expected to sign a four-year contract with Liverpool and should arrive in England early next week for a medical.
Hmm......... a rare hijack attempt by L'pool . -

From the number of midfielders, including Figo, I think Ah Ben is bent of showing the EPL team that 4-5-1 is workable.
He is buying so much midfielders this time as he is scary of another injury crisis for the next season.
He may be too stressed to show his result for the next season.
I can sensed that Ah Ben is eyeing for the EPL title and to be the most successful football manager of all time.
We have a winning manager.

Rafael Benitez has spoken glowingly about prospective new signing Mohamed Sissoko - a player he believes could be the new Patrick Vieira.
Sissoko is expected to complete his move to Anfield this week and having signed him from Auxerre for Valencia two years ago Benitez knows all about the immense potential of the Mali international.
"Sissoko was a player that grew a lot with us and he's a fantastic boy," says the Reds boss. "He was called the new Vieira a few years ago. He played many times when he was 18, 19 and I think he has the energy that we need in the middle.
"He has incredible ability for his age. He is 20, I saw Vieira when he was 18-years old and he was no better than Sissoko. Sissoko runs more than Vieira. In a couple of years he will be more dynamic than Vieira and a better player."
