Liverpool have informed goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek he can accept offers from rival clubs.
Jose Reina is set to be the club's No1 this season and ideally manager Rafa Benitez would rather have Scott Carson as backup.
Benitez said: "I cannot think about one or two games, I need to look at the whole season and I decided one of the positions we needed to fill was goalkeeper.
"Jerzy knows he has to work harder to keep his place.
"Jose has a lot of quality both as a person and a professional and we have a lot of competition there now."
Former manager Gerard Houllier put Dudek, 32, on a contract which was meant to match Michael Owen's money.
So Liverpool face having their second-choice keeper on £65,000 a week this season and £70,000 next before he goes out of contract.
Dudek was told he could accept offers from other clubs if he wanted as of last Monday. -
Ya ! I can sense that Dudek's days are numbered following the signing of Reina .
Think Benitez should keep Dudek first , letting Reina to settle down in England , or in case Reina got injured .

kirkland is on loan to west brom.but he's actually damn good when healthy.i think reina is good enough la,seen enough of him.
