Djibril Cisse signalled his intention to hit the goal trail in the coming season as his brace helped Liverpool to a 3-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen.
The German side were stunned as the former Auxerre man hit the back of the net twice in the space of 60 seconds, whilst Milan Baros capped a comfortable game for The Reds in the second half.
The victory was Liverpool's third in a week, and was also notable for the debut of new boy Mohamed Sissoko after his transfer from Valencia.
Liverpool handed a start to young talent Stephen Warnock, although the winger saw his participation ended early on as he had to go to hospital for precautionary scans on an elbow injury.
After a somewhat slow start Cisse burst into action on 26 minutes as he slotted home from a tight angle after collecting a lofted ball from Anthony Le Tallec.
The French international then had Le Tallec to thank again just a minute later as he picked up the forward's intelligent flick and finished through the legs of Leverkusen keeper Tom Starke.
As is customary on such occasions Rafa Benitez instigated a raft of changes in the second half , including the introduction of midfielder Sissoko, and Baros came off the bench to cap the win on 56 minutes.
The Czech star was sought out with a fantastic long ball from renewed hero Steven Gerrard, and flicked the ball over the head of the onrushing Starke as Liverpool continued their lengthy pre-season campaign in comfortable fashion.
Gerrard is a real class act man,i was watching the match and everytime he touched the ball something good looked like happening.and his long ball to baros was just superb,now i actually hoped he had signed for chelsea..hehe.. but one thing sissoko look kinda crapy,his passing is ok,looks quite nervous besides gerrard all in all a mild version of patrick vieira..and leverkusen was playing damn rough sia,anyhow tackle the liverpool players.oh btw i noticed something different about liverpool now,whenever leverkusen had an offensive set piece they will get everyone back to defend even baros??my match summary..thanks.. -

Am looking for the new team... with goals coming from all areas.... who know.. maybe Hyypia can score a couple of goals too (let's not forget his left footed shot that put most strikers to shame) -
Give Sissoko time.....I think he's still just trying to make sense of how Liverpool play. Hopefully, he will learn to assert his authority in centre midfield since he will be "back-up" to Stevie G.
Zenden looks good, enthusiastic, willing to defend. A left-sided Valdimir Smicer....
Why let Smicer go when Figo is not coming....
