Vidic 'favours' Fiorentina move over Man Utd
Serbia & Montenegro international Nemanja Vidic dreams of playing in Italy and is likely headed for a Serie A club and not England, according to the player's agent.
The 24-year-old Spartak Moscow central defender has been linked with Manchester United and Arsenal but the player's Italian representative, Silvano Martina, said he is probably going to sign for a Serie A team.
'There is no interest from Manchester United so far or from Arsenal either,' Martina said.
'Liverpool showed an interest one month ago but they never made an official offer.'
Vidic captained Red Star Belgrade before his performances attracted the interest of, among others, United and Internazionale.
But instead he chose to sign for Spartak and has shown his qualities as a classic powerful centre back.
Vidic is agile, good in the air and great in the tackle.
He will only be allowed to leave the Russian team if a buyout clause is satisfied.
'Vidic has a contract from Spartak Moscow until 2008 but has a release clause he can exercise at any time, provided a payment of seven million euros is made,' Martina said.
'The player has been happy at Spartak but would like to move on.
'He will leave in January and his intention is to move to Italy, but if Manchester showed an interest then he may consider it.
'Vidic's dream is to play in Serie A and he came very close to signing for Parma but the deal fell through following the scandal of Parmalat.'
Parma were once one of the most prestigious clubs in Italy but the financial crisis at former owners Parmalat almost led to their relegation. -

BenÃtez heads race for Vidic
Liverpool are still hopeful of beating Manchester United to the signature of the Spartak Moscow defender Nemanja Vidic, though both Premiership clubs remain at odds with the Russians over a fee for the Serbia and Montenegro international.
United officials met the Spartak president Sergey Shavlo in London earlier this week for negotiations over Vidic's proposed transfer, though agents acting on the player's behalf remain in talks with Liverpool. Spartak are understood to have quoted £11m for the 25-year-old centre-half, though the English clubs are unlikely to offer more than £4.5m.
Vidic has a buy-out in his contract in Moscow at that amount entitling him to move, though the player would have to trigger the clause by asking for a transfer and agreeing to compensation for the remainder of his deal.
Rafael BenÃtez has drawn up a list of other centre-halves should his pursuit of Vidic falter, with Brondby's Daniel Agger believed to be his principal target. The 21-year-old Denmark international would cost about £4.5m, around half of the money likely to be granted to the Liverpool manager next month. The Argentinian defender Carlo Coloccini, currently at Deportivo la Coruna, will only be considered on loan. BenÃtez is similarly active in pursuit of a right-sided midfielder. Coloccini's compatriot Luciano Galletti, a fringe player at Atletico Madrid since joining last summer, is being considered only on a temporary basis.
Liverpool are hoping that they will be granted a work permit for the Chilean winger Mark González in the new year now that they have struck a deal with Albacete. The original loan move was delayed by the Home Office after Chile were ranked two places outside Fifa's top 70. -

MADRID, Dec 29 (Reuters) - Villarreal and Liverpool have agreed a deal to take the Spanish club's Dutch defender Jan Kromkamp to the European champions, Villarreal said on their website on Thursday.
Liverpool's Spanish defender Josemi is set to join Villarreal as part of the deal, although the players have not yet discussed personal terms.
Josemi, whose full name is Jose Miguel Gonzalez, was the first of several signings made by Spaniard Rafael Benitez shortly after he took over as Liverpool coach in 2004.
Dutch international Kromkamp joined Villarreal, fourth in the Primera Liga, in August on a five-year contract from Dutch club AZ Alkmaar.
Both Liverpool and Villarreal have reached the last 16 of the Champions League.
