According to the latest news on Soccernet (among other websites) Michael Essien has apologised to Didi Hamann over the horrible tackle he made. At least he is showing some decency now.

Fact is that was a reckless challenge and the referee made a mistake in not spotting it. It's very obvious on the video replay.
It's not the first time Essien has tackled in this way. There's nothing wrong with being aggressive but there's a limit. He must be punished for dangerous tackles. -

It's definitely better than having them get off scot free.
Plus suspensions could hurt the club more than the player. Moreover in this case, with Makelele out injured, if Essien were to be suspended, Chelsea will have a hole in midfield to make up for. That's only good news for non-Chelsea fans.
