Michael Owen insists he did not "snub" a move to Liverpool to join Newcastle - and admits the suggestion he did makes his "blood boil".
The England striker left Anfield for Real Madrid in 2004 - but after failing to nail down a first-team place with the Galacticos, moved back to the Premiership this summer in a £17m move to St James' Park.
"...... Liverpool was my first choice. I had spent more than a decade there and I did think I would be going back when I met Rick Parry and BenÃtez just before the transfer deadline.
"We had discussed the wages and all the nitty-gritty of a contract, so I have no doubts that their interest was genuine, whatever you may have heard. But it was difficult for them because they had sold me for £8.5m and were being asked to pay considerably more to take me back. They had to make their own financial decisions."

As a fan, I can't say I've pleasant memories abt ur leaving us! U left us when we seemed 2b in "crisis", we cut loss by getting a mere 8.5m fm those spanish scums. Then when u were in "crisis" there, u expect us 2 pay double the amt to save u?! I wonder if he noes who had caused such a difficult financial decision for us!?

Put it simply, if we had sold him for higher amt....wld it be tat difficult 2 buy him back. Of course there are other factors tat cums into play, but I dun tink he has 1st say 2b "angry"! -

if you say you can sit there and not be angry, and let people make baseless accusations at you, then you have the right to say Owen is terrible..
otherwise, suck it up.. LFC could have paid that money for Owen.. the could have sold Owen for a hell of a lot more.. but they did not!
put it down to lousy business sense..

Hmm ..... think Real Madrid wanted the price of MO ( 8.5m ) plus the prices of Nunez which we sold to Celta Vigo .
Negotiation is almost done when Newcastle came in a price last minute which that Spanish Brat just can't refused .
LFC just have to say no , Liverpool always had the money , Parry just felt it's crazy to pay double , especially we don't desperately need him .
When LFC said no , what can Mr.O do ?
I have to agree he created the situation at the first place and has to lick his own wounds at the end . -

He moved because he wanted to be assured of a place in the England squad. That is always his first priority. In fact, that is also why some Pool fans don't have too much affection for him.
But I agree that the management screwed up by allowing Owen to delay signing his contract in the first place. -

liverpool dont desperately need owen? emotions aside liverpool needed owen. if he was with liverpool this season i believe the world club championship trophy will be at liverpool now. liverpool will also be close behind chelsea in the premiership. -

But the mgt "screwed up" coz they din expect their prodigy son 2 turn his back on them! We gave him 2 much trust n respect...in the end he "betrayed" us and walked out on us!
I'm sure he felt the "pain" when we won the European Cup the next yr....yes, w/out him!
Of course we were not rich enuff.... but even if we were, it's juz not rite 2 pay those silly money! I dun know who had been his advisers....but he had only himself 2 blame; we, the Reds and fans, are juz the unfortunate victims! So if we haven't thrown bricks at u....dun cum crying foul at us 1st! -

he didn't think we were good enough to win medals (how very ironic) and so he left, that's fair enough ... there's no place in this club, not even in the reserves, for any player whose heart is not here ... the only problem i had was his timing ...
we couldn't risk another macca (incidently to the same club), so we had to make a financial decision ... at least we got approximately 9-10m pounds, very low but still better than nothing ... it's ridiculous for us to pay twice that amount to get him back ... it was bad business sense on our part ...
neither party snubbed each other ... i was way more excited when i heard about litmanen and kewell's arrivals ... -

Owen held the club at ransom. He refused to sign a new contract despite verbally declaring that he will. No way LFC was going to let Owen leave at the end of the season for free, that was how Madrid got the cut off price and Owen moved to Madrid to seek greener pastures ( so he calls it ).
Everyone knows what happened straight after. Istanbul. I won't elaborate.
Then Owen starts to panic. He's not playing regularly for Madrid. And the World Cup is approaching. His place in the national team is under threat. Even Sven Goran Ericcson said so. So what does Michael do? He wants to return home, to the premiership. To where? Liverpool of course. Sure, LFC will want to welcome him back, legendary striker leh. what do you expect. But wait, there's a twist. Madrid wants 16 million. Come on, LFC may have the money, but why will they want to buy back a player twice the amount they sold him for?That's not very clever. So newcastle spends more money and brings Owen back.
For me, Owen's at fault. The way he left Liverpool may be forgiven but not forgotten. And don't blame the club for not matching the ridiculous 16 million price tag. -

The only way I'll welcome Owen back is we get him on a free transfer.
Seriously, the present Owen is not suitable for this in-form Liverpool team now. The current team is all about playing for each other, Owen is still a one-trick pony, he expects people to deliver the ball to him.
Without the ball, Owen is easy to neutralise as we saw yesterday.

Actually, I think Owen might just leave Newcastle at the end of this season. To Liverpool? Maybe. It could happen. But definitely not 16million. -
Owen will never come back to Liverpool as long as Shearer is going to be Newcastle's boss one day , soon i can foresee .
The only way i see Owen in Red will be the day Newcastle "accidentally" relegate to Championship Division .
No other reason he'll turned his back at Shearer , who happened to be the one that convince Owen to Tyneside .
