Liverpool's Manager Rafa Benitez has challenged his players to prove they are capable of taking Liverpool to the next level.
The Spanish tactician has reassured the Merseyside outfit that his future lies in The Premiership but, ominously for some of his squad, he has also intimated that major changes to personnel will be made in the summer.
Frustrated at a goal-shy strike-force Benitez is ready to raid the club's coffers in the summer to land a top quality striker, with the futures of Fernando Morientes and Djibril Cisse seemingly in real doubt.
Ahead of their game with Newcastle on Sunday, Benitez has urged his side to press for second spot behind Chelsea, with the threat of an Anfield exit hovering over several of his team.
"For me to see the team progressing this season is enough, next season will be completely different,'' said Benitez.
"If we finish second it will be good for confidence, but then the season will end and it will be different next time, certainly financially.
"At the moment it is enough to see my team playing against the top sides with the chance of winning, but if you cannot beat them you need to know why.
"You must find what the difference is if you want to progress, and that means you must sign the players you need to improve in different positions.
"And of course we must work harder in terms of our tactical work to achieve our aims." -

i highly seriously doubt that the 1st 2 players wud join liverpool...rivalry too intense liao...even Becks hu's now a real player...don fink he wud join... -

The players that I feel should leave...
1. Cisse (Bad attitude, not good enough)
2. Traore (He should have been gone long time ago..)
3. Dudek ( No fault with him, but don't think he will want to play 2nd fiddle again
I kind of still believe in Morientes. There are glimpses of his brilliance and he deserves another season to prove himself.
Crouch is a key player for LFC. Believe it or not. Whenever he plays well, LFC does well.
We should get Pongolle and Mellor back from loan. Resign Fowler. And add another quality striker to make it 5 to choose from. Rudd Van Nistelroy or Hernan Crespo anyone?

On the right hand side, Mark Gonzalez will come with a lot of promise, and based from the videos of him playing in Spain, he will be a very valuable addition.
Then there's Finnan who can deliver a good ball. Risse and Kewell from the left. LFC actually have the players that can distribute the ball well. -
