Anyway I believe he is playing behind the striker which i think is a good position for him based on how well he did for Liverpool when playing there..

Gerrard is more suited to the role Paul Scholes did in the past.
Play in the "hole" for England. His best is his powerful running in from midfield and confusing the defence with his passing or shooting.
He definitely cannot be a striker waiting to receive the ball upfield.

Beckham in the right , Lampard and Gerrard in the middle , ok leh , no clash .

I saw that hole vacant by Gerrard when he moved forward , now SG Ericcsson saw it too , and used Carra as Gerrard's cover .... not a bad move .
