Liverpool set to take step closer to new stadium

Liverpool expect a major step forward on Friday in their dreams to build a new stadium near to Anfield in Stanley Park.

The city council's executive board will recommend leasing a section of the park for the stadium, and if the decision is rubber-stamped, the club could start building work early next year with the first game possible at the beginning of the 2009-10 season.

The club will have to come up with their own part of the deal, a privately-funded Â£180million to build the stadium, and they have until the end of the month to satisfy the council that is possible.

That will trigger Â£240million of public funding for the regeneration of north Liverpool which would include improving the infrastructure around the new stadium site. A 999-year lease to the club for the land is being proposed.

I feel that if possible, why not just upgrade Anfield..

It's kinda sad if we move.. it's just not the same anymore..

Sad ..... but for the financial benefit , Liverpool has to move on with a new stadium .

The plot of land of Anfield can fetch a reasonable good price for further residential developement .

It's a win-win if Liverpool has a new , bigger capacity stadium .

A new fortress of Liverpool FC ........ why not ?

Anfield don't belong to LFC, They belong to the houlding family, We play them to play there
