Liverpool 'nearing takeover deal'
Liverpool are reportedly close to accepting a £450m deal which will allow a Dubai-based consortium to take control of the Anfield club.
The Dubai International Capital group will be allowed to begin the due diligence process this week, according to reports in Monday's newspapers.
American billionaire George Gillett and property tycoon John Miskelly are also thought to be interested in a takeover.
The proposed deal will include £200m to build a new 60,000-capacity stadium.
The due diligence process gives DIC - a subsidiary of the government-owned Dubai Holdings - exclusive rights to study the accounts of Liverpool with a view to finalising a deal.
The details of the deal are not known, and it is unclear whether it would be a full-scale takeover by DIC, or whether they would take over from chairman David Moores as majority shareholders.
But the news will concern those worried about the number of Premiership clubs currently in the hands of foreign owners.
Manchester United, Chelsea, Aston Villa, Portsmouth and Aston Villa have all gone through high-profile takeovers by foreign owners in recent years. -

somehow i hope it doesn't go through ... unless they are the right investors ... it'd be tragic if we become like the mafias ... i'd rather not win the epl than seeing us become another mafia club ...

I trust Rick Parry and David Moore's vision in this deal , i know both this two always have the club in their heart , than money .
Many had tried to buy Liverpool , but nothing had happened , but once this deal struck , i knew Moore and Parry had found the right owner .... than what many had doubt .
No worries , we won't be another mafia in the making , cos WE ARE LIVERPOOL , ONCE LIVERPOOL , ALWAYS LIVERPOOL , nothing will change that !

I agree. Whatever decision David Moore and Rick Parry make will be in the interest of Liverpool FC. However, whether they have good judegement, only time will tell. Midfielder Xabi Alonso has spoken like a true Liverpool supporter as much as a player and echoed the thoughts of many Reds around the world when commenting on the seemingly imminent takeover of the club.
"Since I`ve been in Liverpool, one of the things I`ve noticed most is how much the club and people respect and realise the importance of their traditions.
"Of course, we all want to develop and improve the club, but it`s also important to respect the traditions. I`m sure that`s how the supporters feel, and it`s the same for the players. It`s not always easy to get the right balance because in football you must sometimes change, but if you do things step by step and in the right way, it`s even better.

Even if the takeover happens, I don't think you'll see heaps of money given to Liverpool ala Chelsea. The investment company involved in the takeover is owned by a really rich man, but he is not going to be so involved the way Abromovich is. So don't expect too much from this. They will run Liverpool the way they run their other investments and I believe that will be a good thing for Liverpool.
