Juventus' bid for West Ham United midfielder Javier Mascherano is being threatened by Liverpool.
Juve are in talks with MSI, the owners of Mascherano's registration, over a �6 million deal for the Argentina international ahead of the January market.
But Gazzetta dello Sport says Liverpool have made a late move to trump Juve for Mascherano in recent days.
Reds boss Rafa Benitez is keen to strengthen his midfield and along with Mascherano, has also been linked with Lazio's Gaby Mudingayi -

West Ham midfielder Javier Mascherano wants a move to Liverpool.
The Sun says Mascherano hopes to bend FIFA rules to join Liverpool next month.
Juventus also want the midfielder, who has been frozen out at Upton Park since October.
But Mascherano, 22, has already played for Hammers and Brazilian outfit Corinthians this season - and rules say he cannot join a third club.
Mascherano's advisors believe any potential buyer can claim the rule is a restraint of trade, citing the fact that West Ham have been taken over since he signed in August.
Mascherano is highly rated don't think that he is a junk -

Juventus are willing to pull out of talks with MSI over West Ham midfielder Javier Mascherano and clear the way for Liverpool to sign the Argentine.
Gazzetta dello Sport says Juve's board accept they're at a disadvantage to Liverpool in talks with Mascherano because it will be another 18 months - at least - before they will be competing in the Champions League.
Rather than continue negotiations, Juve representatives have told Liverpool they're prepared to stand aside if the Premiership giants agree to a pre-contract agreement over a summer deal for midfielder Momo Sissoko.
Juve are ready to agree terms now over a £5 million fee for the Mali international, who is currently recovering from long-term injury at Anfield
