Benitez quashes Magpies' hopes of Crouch deal
Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez has insisted he has no intention of selling Peter Crouch and bringing Valencia target man David Villa to Anfield in the January transfer window.
Crouch has been the subject of heightened transfer speculation since failing to take his chances during his side's 1-0 defeat to Blackburn at Ewood Park on Boxing Day. Earlier today it was reported that Newcastle were preparing a £12million offer for the England international.
But ahead of tomorrow's Premiership trip to Tottenham, Benitez dismissed rumours of Villa's imminent arrival and said Crouch remained an integral part of his plans.
Benitez said: 'I can be very clear - we do not want to buy Villa and we do not want to sell Peter Crouch. Villa is a fantastic player but we are not interested in buying him now.'
Crouch cut an abject figure when he was replaced by Dutchman Dirk Kuyt against Rovers but the Reds boss added he was satisfied with the big striker's effort and backed him to get back to scoring goals.
Benitez said: 'He is working hard and the only thing you can do with a striker in this situation is continue to support him. If he continues to work as he has been doing, I will be happy.
'You can never say you are really pleased with the strikers because it is important to take your chances. But the important thing to say to all of your strikers is just to keep going.'
Benitez admitted he may do little business in the transfer market, although the arrival of Australian full-back Lucas Neill from Blackburn appears to have moved closer.
Benitez added: 'If you are top side and you can do something you must always look for improvement but at the moment we are happy with the squad we have got and they are all playing well.'
Newcastle manager Glenn Roeder himself has played down his chances of landing Crouch.
He said: 'Someone knows more than I do. As far as I am concerned, there has not been a deal even spoken about. Secondly, I really hate managers talking about other managers' players.
'Peter Crouch is a Liverpool player and I do not think Rafael Benitez would appreciate me talking about Peter Crouch when he is not a Newcastle player.
'At this moment in time, it is pure speculation and I would be surprised if he ended up becoming a Newcastle player.
'I said a month ago when I was asked, he is very talented and certainly deserves his place in the England team, in my opinion.
'But anything outside that would be unfair to Liverpool and the manager there.'
Roeder is in the market for a striker with Michael Owen and Shola Ameobi injured and loan signing Giuseppe Rossi on his way back to Manchester United after tomorrow's Premiership trip to Everton.
It is understood Crouch is one a list of potential targets, although with cash at a premium at St James' Park it is unlikely he would be able to invest at the suggested level.
Chairman Freddy Shepherd found £15million during the summer to land Obafemi Martins and Damien Duff despite having seen Roeder's predecessor Graeme Souness invest a staggering £50million during his brief but ill-fated reign.
With defensive reinforcements also a priority the club's transfer kitty is likely to have to be spread rather thinly. -

even if Villa was to be sold it will be sold to club like chelsea instead of LFC as chelsea have much more funds compare to LFC
Selling 12 million for Crouch seems to be a great deal but Crouch is something special -
well...Liverpool will soon join Chelsea with crazy money...that flows out of ground. i am sure if Benetiz wants Villa, the UAE boss will sign the cheque - firstly, to get things rolling and secondly to create headlines and leapfrog themselves to the big spending list.
If Villa comes, there'll no place for Beanie Crouch. Newcastle has Martins, who is speedy and could be an ideal partner for Crouch by playing off him. Imagine, Crouch with his height, head the ball ahead of Martin to chase with his speed - viola, simple and straight forward. -
Villa to EPL?
No way. His style is more suited for La Liga. -
After putting in Robo for so many matches and giving him numerous chances to sharpen his striker skill last season, Liverpool going to sell him ?
I dun like the Robo too much but I feel that Liverpool have made him a lethal striker mentally and he should be given a few match to return his sharpness.
The sale of Robo will haunt us if mickey and robo will make a perfect combination for the Toon Army.
So, my little prayer for Ah Ben is get your bloody tactics right, dun tinker and put crouch in more matches. -

Villa ? Why must we sign Villa when we have Kuyt , Bellamy , Fowler and Sinama still on our list ?

Although Liverpool have tonnes of strikers, none of them are really on form, liking scoring goals for fun. (Except for the two frenchmen which Ah Ben dislike)
Most of them missed easy sitters and open chances.
The whole Liverpool have worked hard to create chances and it is most unfortunate that the chances are not put away by the last touch.
Therefore, getting a Villa to Liverpool may not be a bad idea.
But, top scorers tend to flop in Liverpool. -

Valencia striker David Villa was spotted in the Anfield director's box for Liverpool's 3-0 defeat of Bolton Wanderers this week.
Villa has been linked with Liverpool and manager Rafa Benitez admitted his admiration for the prolific striker last week, though denied plans of a January offer for the Spain international. Villa attended the game on Monday as the guest of one of Liverpool's Spanish players, rather than being invited by the club.
The Spaniard is on the Benitez's wanted list but, for now, remains a distant target, says The Times. The forward may have taken the opportunity to sample the Anfield experience on Monday - a process facilitated by his friendship with players such as Jose Manuel Reina and Fabio Aurelio, his former Valencia team-mate - but Benitez is well aware that the Spanish club's president, Juan Soler, is fiercely opposed to Villa's sale, even if Liverpool were willing to smash their existing transfer record by offering about £25 million for him. -
Crouch will stay. Villa, if Liverpool somehow manages to buy him, is a replacement for Fowler. 4 top strikers.

Kevin Doyle is top class for Reading. McCarthy is top class for Blackburn. Kuyt is top scorer for Liverpool in the Premiership with 7 goals. -

Bellamy is not Top class , just Captain of Wales national team, Wales No.1 striker la ....
Crouch is not top-class la , just someone indispensable in England national team , someone that makes a different in England squad .

There is alway no harm to add a striker to the team considering Liverpool is alway contesting for the major cup competitions.
As for Crouch, he just need a few goals to add to his confidence.
For Bellamy, not sure whether he will stay in Liverpool long enough without going into self-destruction.
Kuyt is a goal-assist player and can be a andy cole in front of 1 to 1 situation.
Fowler is into his retirement year and this will be his last season in Liverpool.
Cisse is a strong player but not grind into full potential due to ah ben's tactics.
Garcia is a 10 minute wonder goal substitute and he will score against arsenal tonight.
