Liverpool to be without Gerrard for Toulouse tie
Liverpool will be without injured captain Steven Gerrard and defender Jamie Carragher for their Champions League clash with Toulouse on Tuesday at Anfield.
Midfielder Gerrard has a broken toe and Carragher has a broken rib. Liverpool hold a 1-0 lead after the first leg of the third qualifying round tie.
"Both players will not be available for this game, It's a shame because they are both important players for us," manager Rafael Benitez told the club's Web site.
Gerrard, who missed England's midweek defeat by Germany and the Premier League win over Sunderland, could be back to face Derby on Saturday but Benitez did not put a timescale on Carragher's return.
"Carra is improving which is good news. I need to talk to the doctor to find out more and to see how long he will be out for," Benitez added.
"It's clear that with Steven we need to take care of him. He could be available for the game at the weekend but we'll have to see.
"Again I will need to talk to the doctor first because I don't want to run the risk of losing him for a long time."
Benitez said Liverpool should still be good enough to hold on to their advantage against the French side.
"I am always a positive person and I am confident we will get through, but the players know there is still a game to play and we have to get the right result." -

TWELVE months ago the prospect of a Liverpool team missing its two big local heroes would have left Rafa Benitez in a cold sweat. So it is a sign of the depth of Kop talent that he will send his side out tonight insisting the Reds can cope without Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher.
Liverpool defend a 1-0 first-leg lead in their Champions League qualifier with Toulouse at Anfield. But Gerro has a broken toe while centre-back Carra is sidelined with a broken rib and collapsed lung, picked up in an accidental clash with keeper Pepe Reina at Sunderland on Saturday.
Last season the absence of the side’s two driving forces would have had the alarm bells ringing. But chief Benitez said: “We have Sami Hyypia, Daniel Agger, and the likes of Dirk Kuyt, Xabi Alonso, Javier Mascherano... “There is lots of experience and character in the side so hopefully it should not be a problem for us.”
CarragherÂ’s KO means Hyypia plays despite breaking his nose in the 2-0 win at Sunderland. Liverpool have won seven and drawn one against French sides and never gone out of Europe after winning the first leg away. But despite never slipping up in four previous qualifying ties in this competition, there have been a couple of near misses. And Benitez believes the Anfield clangers they dropped against Grazer AK and CSKA Sofia will be a reminder to ensure there is not another tonight.
On both occasions the Reds still made the group stages, courtesy of two-goal away wins before 1-0 setbacks on their own patch. Benitez insisted: “I’ll be telling the players to be careful. “We lost the games despite having won the first leg 2-0 and maybe then the players were more relaxed.
“In those circumstances it is always more difficult when you’re telling them to stay focused, but the experiences of those games will certainly help with that.” Peter Crouch can expect to lead the line after missing out entirely once again at Sunderland. -

Liverpool are without Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher for their Champions League qualifer with Toulouse.
Skipper Gerrard has not recovered from a broken toe while Carragher suffered a collapsed lung and a broken rib in Saturday's win at Sunderland.
Fellow defender Sami Hyypia broke his nose in the same game but is available after training as normal on Sunday.
Toulouse are without Dominique Arribage (knee), Daniel Congre (shoulder) and Albin Ebondo (thigh).
Toulouse trail 1-0 after the first leg and prepared for the match at Anfield with a 1-1 draw at Nice on Saturday, Andre-Pierre Gignac scoring the equaliser for Les Violets in the 86th minute.
Liverpool defeated Sunderland 2-0 on Saturday, but 29-year-old Carragher was substituted after 75 minutes.
The defender had a scan on Sunday and will be monitored by club doctors, though there has been no indication from Liverpool as to how long Carragher will be sidelined.
With Hyppia declared fit to play he is expected to partner Daniel Agger in the centre of Liverpool's defence.
Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez opted for Fernando Torres and Andriy Voronin against Sunderland but Peter Crouch and Dirk Kuyt are expected to start against Toulouse.

Very interesting match , but quite tired to watch , especially only see Liverpool playing .....
Leto is quite kung chiong last night , with an okay performance .
The one that caught my eye is that young brazilian fella , tiny little fella , but very quick and alert , an eye for goal . Good debut for both of them .
Who say Momo is our weakest link ?
Momo did very well to marshall the midfield , bullying the French midfield thru'out the match .
My Man-of-the-Match : Yossi Benayoun .
He dribbled past the French's defense like nobody business , his link-up play very well with the forwards . Benayoun was the one that created the last 2 goals i think .
I can't say it's a very good performance , but a happy one for me .

Hey X-men. Is this the first time you are following the Champions League? Don't you know that teams from the same country cannot be in the same group? Furthermore, all four English teams are seeded. So they definitely won't be playing with each other in the group stage even if UEFA has changed the rules, which I don't think they did.
In fact, teams from the same country will not be paired against each other in the first knock-out phase. They can only meet each other from quarter-finals onwards. -
Ya man .....to meet another EPL team , must wait until the next phase .
So the draw will be like one English team , one Italian , one Germany and one Spainish like that ..... into one group .
