Reds rocked by double injury blow
Liverpool have been rocked by the news that Daniel Agger and Xabi Alonso are both facing up to six weeks on the sidelines after both sustained broken metatarsals.
Centre-back Agger had been carrying the injury, thinking it was a bruised toe, but, like Alonso, aggravated the injury in training ahead of Tuesday's Champions League encounter with FC Porto.
Alonso limped out of the draw with Portsmouth last weekend and was left out altogether of Tuesday evening.
A club spokesperson confirmed: "Neither player requires surgery but we expect them to be out for between four and six weeks."
The duo are set to miss league fixtures with Birmingham City, Wigan Athletic and Tottenham Hotspur as well as the Carling Cup clash against Reading and the Champions League tie with Marseille.
They could be back in the frame for the Merseyside derby with Everton at Goodison Park on October 20th.
