Liverpool chief Rafa Benitez has warned Peter Crouch that he must fight for his place at Anfield.
Crouch has dropped down the pecking order at Liverpool this season with Fernando Torres, Dirk Kuyt and Andrei Voronin all ahead of him in Benitez's plans.
The England international has spoken of his frustration at his lack of first-team opportunities, but Benitez has told the giant forward to do his talking on the pitch.
Character
"In a top side every player needs to prove his character, quality and mentality.
"The strikers need to be ready and the responsibility is on the player. When I talk about a good mentality I mean a winning one, trying to fight for your position and show you're good enough.
"We're hopefully going to play 60 games so that's enough for all to have their opportunity.
"If they say they are not ready, in a top side we don't want excuses. We want players who are ready to play every game the best they can.
"It doesn't just apply to Crouch but to all of them. For me it's better if a player plays 50 per cent of the games working at 100 per cent and not 90 per cent in all games and not win anything."
No problem
Benitez also called on Crouch to use the example of Yossi Benayoun by playing his way into his plans
"Benayoun showed what can happen if you work hard and you're ready. But I don't have a problem with Crouch - he's learning," added Benitez.
"It's frustrating for them but when they are left out they must be ready for the next game.
"Sides do evolve and you do lose players along the way. That is inevitable.
"It isn't easy to find players like Jamie Carragher, who stay at one club and retain a winning mentality. But Crouch will score goals and must be ready when he gets a chance."
personally i feel crouch will not do any better becos of less playing in pool. for the sake of his career, england and liverpool, i feel liverpool should loan him off to spanish club to make him gain some oversea explosure to sharpen his skills.
speaking of which, i realise dat this season there r NONE england players playing in oversea (forget about gay beck aka gonecase). even owen hargrevas choosen to be in comfort zone to come back to mama land. i feel the future of england squad is not very good as no one is going to assist them on opponents' statistic. they r going to suffer in euro 2008 if they themselves r not practice gloralisation comparing to their foreign players. -

frankly speaking, crouch is my favourite england player as he is hardworking n full of surprising - surprising dat he score when opponents underestimate him.
it's pain to see dat this giant's time is going to fade soon.

Letting crouch go will not solve the present issues.
Ah Ben just have to determine his top twelve players for each position and play them together more to gain consistent results.
Dun always expect magic with mix and match team policy.
Basic rule - Build a team and win the game.
Liverpool did not play with any tactic change for the past few games.
Just pack the 6 yard box and you have Liverpool blocked.
Maybe Paco is also a factor.
It is also due to certain player not playing to their standard that is causing the slight.
It is pretty obvious.
So, Ah Ben have to forget about his spanish pride and use his squad wisely or we have to employ the special one liao. -
crouch's height is good for long ball tactics when facing defenders who r short. but rite now pool has two other tall players like torres n kuyt, who r better as they can deliver.
if crouch were to exit liverpool, i believe small clubs wont mind to sign him. but if i were rafa, i will recommend valensia to sign him.

Crouch will not be sold , unless there's another 6 footer that's better than him !
At the moment , No !
And we need one 6 footer for some games .
Some opposition are so good on the ground , are not so on the air , so Crouch will be in to torment opponent's aerial disadvantage .
That is always Benitez's plan ....
To use different players , for different tactics .
Torres will be very good to play as lone-striker .
Voronin are bad in the air , but good like Luis Garcia , moving in from outside the box , with good off the ball movements .
Crouch of course are good in the air , and set-pieces .
Kuyt is our best player in ball-shieldings . We need Kuyt's better physical command .
All's depending on tactics for different games .
Crouch will be in Liverpool , for at least until next summer . -
sorry but crouchie is like michael owen.
they have proven to be specialists in their specific niche skills. owen - fast paced player who can whiz past players at the blink of an eye. what does he do? try to change and be a more "all-rounded" player. overnight. hey, i'm all for developing one's other skills but why not hone the best that you have? what happened to him towards the end of his liverpool career? crap.
crouch - tall player. useful for knock-downs and cross-target. what does he do? try to be a dribbling maestro. let's not even talk abt his heading ability. i think even erik meijer had a better heading accuracy than him. dude, you're tall. its an advantage. that's wat you were bought for. stick to it.

I thought it was a horrible purchase initally but I am surprised how he can be pretty useful as a decoy... HAHAHA... so I believe he can still be useful against some teams.

crouch needs to leave and find somewhere where there's more love....

it's official! Crouch is on transfer list for 10M.
crazy benitez to sell him. yesterday he scored for england win somemore.
hopefully crouch can move abroad to gain more experience. -

i don't think crouch should leave. he can be a good player, and his finishing is not that bad too!
i think kyut is the one that might leave, since his first touch are like shocking, and his finishing is bad.
i think voronin is a steal at free transfer! -
With more crosses coming in from the flank... why should Crouch go? Who can beat him in the air? He don't even need to jump to reach high crosses... defenders will have nightmare guarding him when comes to high crosses and he falls easily.. who knows we might get lucky penalties just like the one against Fulham
