England ask Beckenbauer and Platini for manager adviceNo wonder England failed to qualify .... the top failed to deliver , how u expect the rest to succeed ?
LONDON (AFP) - - Germany great Franz Beckenbauer and UEFA President Michel Platini are just two of the leading football figures who have already been consulted by Football Association (FA) chief executive Brian Barwick as he tries to find a successor to Steve McClaren as England coach .
McClaren was sacked last week hours after a 3-2 defeat against Croatia at Wembley meant England failed to qualify for next year's Euro 2008 tournament in Austria and Switzerland.
Barwick is understood to have told a meeting of the FA board here Thursday that he will consult other high-profile football figures in his search for a "world-class" manager.
Among those Barwick and Sir Trevor Brooking, the FA's director of football development and a former England midfielder, will be seeking opinions from are Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson, England legend Sir Bobby Charlton plus former England managers Sir Bobby Robson, Glenn Hoddle and Graham Taylor.
Current players such as England midfielder Steven Gerrard are also likely to have their views canvassed.
