Roy Hodgson has declared he has "no fears" over the future of Fernando Torres, insisting the Spaniard will stay at Liverpool as long as he can see the club moving in the right direction.
Torres proved why he is one of the most highly-rated strikers in world football with a stunning brace against Chelsea on Sunday, prompting Carlo Ancelotti to label the former Atletico Madrid man a "fantastic striker".
The performance of Torres earned significantly different reviews to some of his earlier outings of the campaign, when he was accused of looking "disinterested" and "disenchanted" with a club failing to live up to expectations.
Should "El Nino" choose to leave Liverpool he would have his pick of the top clubs in Europe but, with the Reds' new owners now promising high calibre signings in the future, Hodgson sees Torres as part of his masterplan to return Liverpool to Premier League title challengers.
"We speak all the time, and it is clear he wants the club to do well," the Liverpool manager said in the Daily Mail. "He wants to see we're moving in the right direction.
"We were all in a situation wondering what the future would be when we were in the throes of a takeover but, like myself, he can see a positive future here.
"I don't have any fears for the future, as far as he's concerned, as long as we can get back close to the top of the table, where Liverpool belong.
"He will get the plaudits and rightly so, because on that evidence, he is right up at his best again. It showed why he is a vital player for Liverpool. He would be for any club."
fast, strong and good finishing. Just like drogba.
Drogba is strong and strike fear in defenders.
Torres is more of a skilful player and not as strong as Drogba.
It is hard to say whether Torres will stay as it depends on whether reinforcement comes in Jan 2011.
Or else he is too lonely up front to play the sole striker role.
He is frustrated with the lack of support up front.
