hmmmm actually murphy took it rather well usually... he will place it in the top corners....
as for owen, he normally shoot rather near to the keeper (centre) and a little to the side... meaning more of a placement shot which has 50 - 50 chance lah....
gerrard was abit unlucky to meet van der saar for tat penalty... but his is rather well taken too...... -

Murphy is clutch.I've never seen him miss from the spot before and he has publicly admitted that he loves to take penalties.
He should take the penalties.Provided he plays that is. -

Maybe he is saying this to GH : " Keep me in LFC to take all penalties , I never will miss ! " -

so far Murphy is the best with penalties.
Owen can learn from him.....
Backup maybe can try Heskey since we know that GH love him so much that he will likely to be on the field most of the time. -

I'm afraid we haven't got much choices.
A squad with only 1 decent penalty-taker speaks alot abt it. It took 3/4 missed penalties for GH to realise tat Owen is not good at spot-kicks.
In all, we missed 5 penalties this season...tat could've been 15 more points in the bag

He just DON'T see the problem.... He just not able to see which player is out of form.
Think he need a surgery on his eyes and brain.

I always have this weird notion that midfielders take better penalties than strikers. Its becos penalties, more often than not, goes for placement than power. But most of the times, when u see strikers on one on one situation with goalkeepers, they just shoot, very rarely, though we have, u would see a striker taking time to place the ball into a certain spot.
Midfielders however are trained to do precise passing, crossing. Thus I find that in a penalty, they are able to analyse which spot they want and have a higher chance to make it.
Weird notion, but thats what I think hahaha. -

I think Danny Murphy has done his homework at home , besides doing it at the training ground !!
Well , I always thought that goalkeeping coach has kept a kind of records , a form of summary , to analyse the opponent's keeper penalty record.....like which way he always goes at or goes for .......which leg came out first before he dive to his left or right , which way he "gimmick" himself when positioning.....what habits he has before he swerve his body etc.....
That's my thinking la ! -
I think a good penalty-taker needs wit and a good clean strike. Wit is required to fool the keeper, and a clean strike to place the ball wherever u want.
Lacking in one will lower the success rate by 1/2 - aka Owen, n even Gerrard. Like many good spot-kickers (Henry, Shearer...), Murphy has both, hence his success rate speaks for itself... thank goodness! -

anyhow kick towards goal, weakly kick at the goalie.. all also counted as "shots at goal"...
