He is awesome , absolutely awesome against The Latvians , The Dutch , The Germans and now The Danes !
Question is : Do we really need Mick Owen ?
Now that we had Baros and Cisse , just base on Mick's last season and current Euro 04 performance , I wouldn't mind if Mick Owen wants to talk about any new contract or not !
Simple answer : He go , so what ? We still have Baros and Cisse , not forgetting Sinama Pongelle ! What about Neil Mellor ?
Mick Owen is just a squad member , not any kind of superstar , so please la Mick , sign on the lines and wait for further instructions !! -

Owen should not go.
But, he should be relegated to reserve striker, where he play for the last 10 - 20 minutes.
Nobody knows when injury will hit Cisse or Baros.
Give GH the benefit of the doubt for signing Milan Baros and grooming him to be the star.
After Baros get the Golden Boots, GH will say: " I make the right signing for the REDS."
Too bad he is not around to show off. -
I dont think Owen is great... last time maybe.. now.. nah.
Baros is faster.. willing to take shots from outside the box... all he need is the vision cos sometimes I find him trying to score too hard till he forgot there's other players...best of all he dont need a big potato to knock down balls for him to chase.....
imagine pongelle n baros... being the strike force... 2 speedy demons. -
G.H never fully used Baros last season...he always sticks to the Owen-Heskey partnership which always flopped. Even from the transfer news, G.H wanted to trade Baros for Kezman from PSV but luckily it didn't went through because G.H left.
Owen, step aside for Baros and learn from him. Dun act as superstar when you are not. -

but he is still no doubt a player for the big occassion.

you dont let go a player of his calibre just because of lack of form....
a good soccer player doesnt turn bad so abruptly...
if he is good, he will always have something good about his game.

I like Owen, even got a poster of him alongside Kevin Keegan and Kenny Dalglish - my 3 Gods. Lately, however he looks so jaded, where's the hand rubbing days when he thrashed Newcastle? And with no new contract, he is going to be another McManaman! I think he needs a rest, buy a Seabiscuit and visit Macau, take a Star Cruise, stay in Vegas, pick up mahjong, golf with Sergio Garcia and pick up Spanish to impress his new gaffer, renew his boxing interests with Bernard Hopkins...whatever, seriously he needs a break. Meanwhile, it should be Baros-Cisse which may prove to be a Owen-Heskey partnership before it gone stale.

Good news is he shd be staying put to impress the new boss. He's known to be an admirer of Benetiz n how Valencia plays.

Personally I feel that Owen will be good to lead the younger players.. his vision is good.. he created chances for others to score. He is not as exciting as he used to be...

Owen,Cisse,Baros and we're still lack of one.

The fourth striker by my words should preferably be someone from the youth system (academy)
No use buying big names and benching them...create more tension only... -

Let's hope Benitez is ruthless enuf to keep Owen on the bench and not like GH , whom has tried to play him even when Owen has lost a bit of form in order to get him to sign a contract !
And by signing a contract , hope that that a clause stating : " includes playing regularly a s subs ! " -
there will never be such clauses coz what if, a "will play" clause and the guy is out of form?
or a "bench clause" and the guy comes into really really hot form?
