The twice-named African Footballer of the Year was Liverpool's second most expensive signing in history when Gerard Houllier brought him to Anfield in 2002 but the former Lens striker never made an impact on Merseyside and should be playing his football at the Reebok Stadium.
Diouf rejected moves to Portsmouth and Spanish side Malaga to join Bolton after being impressed with Sam Allardyce, who saw his team win 4-1 against Danny Murphy's Charlton on the opening day.
"El-Hadji was won over by what Bolton's manager had to say," claims the 23-year-old's agent Alexander Grouet. "And by the club's ambition. The aim to do even better than last season's 8th place finish."
A Bolton spokesperson said: "It is imminent and will probably go through in the next 48 hours."

Diao must be playing well in the reserve game to owe a retention.
He is not really that impressive as claimed by GH.
Maybe he play well with weak opponents.
My stand on him is still the same.
He is a bloody keng king.
Better sell him away before he keng another injury.
As for Diouf, we wish he can woke up at Bolton and come back to claim his spot.
