Why do ppl like to spread vicious rumour?

A fren just told u that she heard a rumour about u and a married colleague are having an affair. Someone saw you and the attrractive married colleague on couple of occasion having lunch/b'fast together and put 2 and 2 together and eer come up with 5! Bummer. Don't want to hurt anybody ....
What wud u do in this situation?
Tell me why do ppl like to spread rumour. -
cos they r jealous of u n wanna make ur life miserable.

if it is not true, just ignore lor...dats wat i usually do, usually it will go away after some time...
these ppl just simply have nothing better to do lor...they have nothing to talk abt so they have to talk bad abt other ppl in order to spice up their life, it is rather sad really...
