SINGAPORE: It's quite possibly Singapore's hairest mall!
With a staggering 60 salons, Far East Plaza is fast becoming the place for a haircut.
There are over 100 hair stylists and thousands of styles, techniques and colours to choose from.
Prices for a snip and style start from as low as $15 and reach to over $100.
Laurence Lee, creative director of salon It's Hairy, said: "I've been here for about nine years. There are more salons right now catering to street style fashion. So this is a place I think people are turning to to look for something that's up and trendy."
One customer who goes to Far East Plaza for a haircut is 20-year-old Thipa.
She's got a spunky new hair style, with highlights to match - a pretty radical makeover for Thipa.
"It has the reputation for being a cool place to cut hair. I don't know, I hope my mother doesn't scold me because she didn't want me to cut my hair short!" she said.
"Got a lot of fashion," said another customer on why she chose to go to Far East Plaza for her haircut.
"It's cheaper here and more trendy," said a third.
"Quite 'in' actually," said a fourth.
"Younger, funkier, they follow the Hong Kong and Japanese styles, so they're more fashionable," said a fifth.
The place is not only for the young and hip, but also for many working adults, like 35-year-old Patricia Chng who paid about $200 for a state-of-the-art ceramic perm.
With a growing number of salons at Far East Plaza, competition is keen and many are competing on price and service.
Kenneth Chan, creative director of Klearcut Hairdressing, said: "The competition here is quite tough. Most of the new hair salons couldn't make it after one or 2 years, so they close down." - CNA
