Christmas Light-Up

  I always love this time of year when Orchard Road is brightly lit and decorated to herald Christmas!
  
  It's so magical seeing soooo many lights glimmering away like little stars! Too bad it's so crowded that it's hard to take a leisurely walk without bumping into people or getting pushed and shoved about, etc.
  
  So, how do you like this year's light-up? I thought Tang's did a great job this year! Centrepoint, as always, looked lovely too!

  not sure, but each year the lighting gets less creative or pretty..

  this year's decorations extend all the way to marina square....but those colourful hanging knobby light sabres look weird

  I liked last year's light-up better... especially the one around Scotts/Orchard Road where they had the toy soldiers. Tangs was nice this year too, but I thought it was a bit low-key, compared to last year's where they had lots of lights and words like Peace, Joy, and Love. That was nice, especially with the colour contrast of red & green

  I think about three or four years back, they put up these nice large transparent plastic balls with fibre optic 'flowers' inside that changed colour continuously, making it look like some mysterious and magical crystal balls. I loved those balls! I hope they'll consider recycling them next year.
  
  The light up sure isn't anything compared to a few years back but still, at least we have a light-up.

  Each major shopping centre would have competition to see whose light up or deco is the best..and it was really fun to stroll or drive down orchard to see each deco..

  Oh yeah! In those days, Centrepoint and Goodwood Park were always in the running for the top award!

  many of the shopping centres along orchard rd have just been recently renovated n refurbished e.g. wisma atria, paragon extension, orchard point...perhaps they hv no funds left for an elaborate x'mas decoration this year

  not jus this year, past few years like that, becos of economic crisis...

  Wow... I actually love the photos! Did you snap them with a digicam? I'm kind surprised that they can take such great photos at night!

  Yup, I'm using a Canon PowerShot S1 IS. It's got manual overrides for exposure, shutter speed and all, and it took a bit of fiddling around before I took shots that actually showed up.

  Actually, SL and I had our fun dampened when we tried to take photos inside Centrepoint and were stopped by a Security Guard who gruffly said, 'Don't take cameras!'. We weren't even taking photos of any shops... just standing in front of the lovely decor. *grumbles
  
  Ged, I'd really love to have a camera like yours! OH drats, I just coveted my neighbour's possessions so I guess I just made it to Santa's naughty list! hehehe!

  Last I heard, Santa was busy downsizing (lost a lot of money on China Aviation Oil) and he's also got to file all his flight plans with the Department of Homeland Security. He may have been too busy to notice this transgression.
