Wedding Banquet

Think I don't know 90% of the people there... I wonder why people go through so much trouble to throw a wedding dinner for so many distant relatives... I bet the wedding couple don't know at least half of the crowd...
My question is:
1) Will you throw a traditional wedding dinner when you get married?
2) If yes, will you invite all your distant relatives and what not so much so that you don't know at least half of them?
3) And will you invite all your ex-girlfriends/boyfriends to your wedding banquet?
I sure hope I don't need to throw a wedding banquet for so many people I don't know... Isn't it quite illogical and stupid? What for? So much hassle and discomfort...

I often joked with my gf that we should just register silently and I will just show my parents the certificate one fine day and that's it. Don't think she look too happy whenever she hear me say that

SL, remember how you asked me at least thrice whether or not the food at your wedding banquet was good, specifically the prawns, because you didn't have a chance to sit down to eat it yourself?
It'll be hard for me to see all that good food and not have a chance to sit down and tuck in.

Yes

Yes. Parents want to tell relatives and friends that their daughter/son is getting married & celebrate a happy occassion, I don't see anything wrong with this intention. But will try not to incur a net loss, which means no over the top fancy stuff. This is supposed to be a dinner, not a circus anyway.

It's as much of a hassle as you allow it to be. A straightforward dinner isn't that hard to organise. Only when you start wanting to personalise it or do something extra special , then it gets problematic. -

marriage is not juz b/w 2 pple, it involves the reunion of 2 families too... so i dun think its a gd idea to not spare a thout for the families involved ba

After some thinking, I think I most probably can't escape the fate of throwing a wedding banquet for people I don't know (if I did get married that is)...
