  Why is it called pot luck?? this is what I was taught by family....
  the general definition....A pot luck is a gathering where every family or person brings a different dish.
  In Singapore it usually means whatever you want to bring...the luck part I guess is for the guests, they're trying their luck on the quality of the food....
  
  where I grew up and how we practise it in the family (and I'm told is the authentic way of practising potluck).....
  its that the type of dish a person contributes is usually designated based on the first initial of a last name. (so the dish I would have to make would have to be a dish, name starting with B) Thats where the luck part comes in...cos you dont know what dish you're gonna be saddled with whipping up based on your alphabet...we do full names, chinese names, nicknames...whatever we can to keep it changing and fun...and the guests dont ever know what to expect!!

  I think we need to have 3 meeting points: AMK MRT station, CCK MRT station and the Zoo entrance for those taking own transport...
  
  It doesn't make sense for me to go from AMK to CCK to go to Mandai or from someone to go from CCK to AMK to Mandai...

  just a thought... if potluck then after the picnic lunch if cannot finish the food, alternatives would be...
  
  1) have to lug the unfinished food around the zoo
  
  2) feed to the animals and risk getting caught / told off by zookeepers
  
  3) throw food away and bear the guilt of being wastrels...
