Anyone ever had this experience and what did you do??

I'm starting to think that it is a trend to try to borrow someone's cellphone to make a call instead of using public phones.
So far, I have been approached 3 times on seperate ocassions and locations by someone who wanted to borrow my cell to make a call.
I wonder if anyone else has the same experience and what did you do?
For me I refused to lend them my phone for the below reasons:
1. What if they take the phone and run away?
2. What if they refuse to return the phone and say its theirs?
3. Are they that cheap that they need to save 10 cents and make a call for free on my expense?
What do you guys think? -

So far haven met any of these ppl yet...even if i ever meet 1 someday I will also not lend it to them...I would rather give him my 10 cents coin nah take it or leave it!

if they are relli bery pathetic, and need fone urgently to contact family members for a life-and-death matter, i will bring them to police station -
I never lend my hp, I only lent him my phonecard.

there were cases where ppl "borrow" phones then run away with it. I'll just give them coins to make the call or just say sorry and walk away.

Sighhh.....I was a nice guy and when I was approached by a china girl I lent her my phone. (Pls hor, not that she is pretty, in fact she not at all) Anyway it happened inside the MRT station while I was waiting for my train. She said she was going to just make one phone call so I oblige. Then I realised that she was making more then just one phone call so I demanded for my phone back but she refused and said "one more one more". Luckily my train came and I just snatch it off from her and got on the train. What luck!
Once bitten, twice shy. I am sure I will never let this happen again!

so far this never happen to me yet also...but if have, i won't lend to any one as well....would rather give him/her 10 cents also....

Ever had the expereince of leaving my bag with my ex bf, then went washroom. Could not find him after i came out of the washroom. so in the end..i din open my mouth and borrow hp from anybody...i waited and waited..searched and searched...after 20-30 mins, I found him with my bag. phew! But i must say, I was really scared..the two most important possessions were not with me in time of need.
what would i do if someone approach me and want to borrow my hp?
I will see who's the person asking...expressions etc..
If i dun feel safe to lend him/her, I think i will give him/her coins to make a call at the public phone. -
Hmmm....I never experienced this before...and I dun think I would lend either....better to be safe than sorry...l guess I would make a call for the person if it was really a desperate situation.

I rmb the straits times did a survey on this. But i can't quite recall the results. But it's about the same as wat most of u said lah. Rather not lend or give 10 cents to the person.

sometimes, having earphones attached to your ears almost all the time has its advantage
have ignored insurance people and probably a few of these people because i could not hear them -
we've heard too many bad reports, making us more defensive
it's not tt we dun wanna help, but a conman wun spell it on his forehead, so we become wary of everyone tt approach us..... -
yeah got some aunties or weird people borrowing hps in mrt stations to look for jobs. i said no.
but i lent once a sg girl (20+) who lost her hp and has to contact her bf. can tell it's real. she offered to pay me after that . -
nvr happen to me b4..
but i dun think i will lend my hp..
read frm newspapers so many cases of borrow hp n then run off w it.
provided its like an emergency call i witness myself.. like an accident happened... n the person need to use my hp.... -
If they want your handphone next time, just ask them for their IC in exchange of using your phone Then see what they say!

I think being such an attractive women like you, I am sure you will get lots of guys coming to you with the excuse of borrowing your phone. what if they make international calls without telling u?
better just give them some coins to call using public phones

So far, the only encounter I got was a tai tai who needed to check with her son at home that she left her vertu on the dining table.

on the other hand, i must admit it is hard nowadays to find a public phone...
but being sceptical of strangers, i wouldnt lend. if the person really appears to be in need, will offer a coin..o maybe make call on the person's behalf if u really wana help but dun want to subject your phone to possible thefts. -
Hmm, this is just like hitch-hiking in the States right?
Depends on whether you want to help, and are willing to take the risk of helping or not.
Some people still help, even though they have had a couple of bad experiences, cause the can't imagine the poor hitch-hiker on the road for the night.
Sort of like us, some of us help because if its really an emergency, the poor person would be desperate, and to look on and do nothing is something our mind doesn't allow.
Lending is okay, but just expect the person to run off with it, and look at him/her all the time. So if he/she really runs, just shout thief, and then run after the person..
