The Viscount de Chegny, Raoul. Why? Because :
1) We were childhood sweethearts and I'm a sentimental fool;
2) I don't wish to live in the underground with the Phantom where there's no light and where conditions seem ideal for the breeding of new germs and such;
3) The Phantom is pretty blood-thirsty;
4) His obsession with Christine is a tad scary... I mean, he even had a mannequin made in her likeness all dressed up as a bride! Eeeeeks! And with that hidden mirror-door of his right in Christine's room, he can easily peek at her when she's undressing!! Aaaiiieeeee!! Ham Sup Kwei!!
5) This Phantom probably has deep, underlying emotional and psychological problems and is better off spending time with a psychologist;
6) He cannot go out on dates with me! No shopping, no movies, no dining... too boring!
hehehehehehe.... Kops, enough reasons or not? 
I would, however, feel sorry for the Phantom. I'll maybe da-pao nice food from outside for him and bring him a copy of Today newspaper everyday to tempt him to take his first step out of that self-imposed underground dungeon.

the phantom becoz
he has a v sad childhood tt made him wat he is today, for everyone who broke ur heart, there will be one who will heal it.. n i hope to be the one
he was there for christine when she was at her lowest pt in life, n when she is juz a nobody
he kill is nt becoz he is blood thristy but more of the fact tt pple dun treat him like a weirdo, tt guy he 1st killed bad mouth him..
he is the one who made christine famous..
he has no one to turn to, no frds no family...
he still let christine off in the end.. n luv her till the end... -
I think Christine felt awe for the Phantom because he's powerful and mysterious then later, she also felt pity for him. I doubt it was love that she felt for him though. Right from the start, she expressed her fascination for Raoul and it very quickly turned to love when he professed his love for her first.
It's funny cause when I first heard the musical in the '80's, I thought I'd choose the Phantom character too if I were Christine Daae but people change. -

I had the great privilege of catching the musical in Broadway, NY!!! I really really loved it!
The movie was good too. In the reviews, it was said that you'd either love the movie or hate it... and I loved it.

I was actually thinking that if my roster allows, it would be great to attend one of those movie marathon thingies! Have always wanted to go! However, knowing me, I'll most likely fall asleep halfway.
BTW, has anyone attended those movie marathons? Orchard Cineleisure has them pretty often. Do people bring blankets and teddy bears along? Would there actually be folks who wear pj's there? Just very curious. hehe! -

the Phantom, as i said, is a mash of 3 psychopaths...
he had a mother figure/"protector" in Mdm Giry, like NORMAN BATES
he wore a mask and almost could not be killed, like JASON
he was hideously scarred and preyed on young children, like FREDDY KRUEGER
then also, he had a letch for young flesh.. whom he brought up, sort of like Humbert Humbert in Lolita...
hmm.. a paedophiliac Lolita-complex riddled psychopath... uhh... not a chance...
then you have the Viscount Raoul....
what the heck is WRONG with this dude?
he seemed the only sane fella until... he decided to let the maniac go, knowing the maniac will come back and stalk the woman he loves... if it were me, i'd have turned him into mincemeat or tied the fella up and served him to the Police...
but no.... he asked the woman he loves to go perform the very play the maniac wrote... knowing the maniac knows the theater like the back of his paw.... and is willing to stalk and murder anyone who much as looks as "his girl" wrongly..
then he goes, almost unarmed to "save" Christine... without bring the rest of the whole damned battalion of Police he has at his disposal...
what the heck is wrong with stopping the damned play and sending the Police to hunt down and take out the Phantom with extreme prejudice?

And then again...he's considered eccentric in a way..so...u'll be quite afraid to really give ur heart to someone like dat and to live with someone like dat....not becos of his looks but more becos of he's mentally and thinking..having being scarred since childhood... such ppl in real life may scare ppl off...cos they tent to be reserved and sensitive even thou he might meant no harm.
Maybe after he gone thru proper treatment or conselling...then can reconsider....but he's quite a talented.

Fast forward to the end of the movie where Raoul places the newly-bid monkey music box at Christine's grave. Sigh... They did live to a ripe old age, and till death did they part. And even in Christine's death, Raoul's heart was still very much with her.
