Yup, it was! I think if you read the book, you'd read that the monkey was the young Phantom's pet. Erm... hope I remembered it right. I read it ages ago! I'm too lazy to check up on the author's name but somehow, 'Gaston LeCroix' kept popping up in my head.Originally posted by mdfjami:wanted to ask.. the monkey that was following the girls around during the carnival during the flashback.. is it the same monkey in the toy box playing Masquerade?
Once again, so very true! Till then, let's remain happy and blissfully unaware! hehehe! Hmm... let's be Sleeping Beauties until we're woken with a kiss! woooooohooooooo!!! And then, it shall be Party Time!!! hahaha!Originally posted by Camellias4me:^5!
Cannot find... so we gotta wait for them to find us instead.

Yep! I watched the movie with my hubby & we kept giggling when that Italian (?) woman was singing... so hilarious!Originally posted by Rhonda:*high 5's Camellias4me!
True! True! Love cannot perpetuate based on fear.
Fast forward to the end of the movie where Raoul places the newly-bid monkey music box at Christine's grave. Sigh... They did live to a ripe old age, and till death did they part. And even in Christine's death, Raoul's heart was still very much with her.
Where to find a man like that? Tell me! Where?? Where??? hehe!
thout we r suppose to choose based on how the 2 men r n not wat christine feels?Originally posted by Rhonda:*high 5's Camellias4me!

the Phantom, as i said, is a mash of 3 psychopaths...
he had a mother figure/"protector" in Mdm Giry, like NORMAN BATES
he wore a mask and almost could not be killed, like JASON
he was hideously scarred and preyed on young children, like FREDDY KRUEGER
then also, he had a letch for young flesh.. whom he brought up, sort of like Humbert Humbert in Lolita...
hmm.. a paedophiliac Lolita-complex riddled psychopath... uhh... not a chance...
then you have the Viscount Raoul....
what the heck is WRONG with this dude?
he seemed the only sane fella until... he decided to let the maniac go, knowing the maniac will come back and stalk the woman he loves... if it were me, i'd have turned him into mincemeat or tied the fella up and served him to the Police...
but no.... he asked the woman he loves to go perform the very play the maniac wrote... knowing the maniac knows the theater like the back of his paw.... and is willing to stalk and murder anyone who much as looks as "his girl" wrongly..
then he goes, almost unarmed to "save" Christine... without bring the rest of the whole damned battalion of Police he has at his disposal...
what the heck is wrong with stopping the damned play and sending the Police to hunt down and take out the Phantom with extreme prejudice?
i dunno... seems like you have a choice between a psychopath paedophile or a barely-sentient moron who is willing to put his "lover" in harm's way...

errr... well, hubby & I were laughing at some parts of the movie too We didn't like the show, to be honest... one of the worst movies I've seen this year, but then again, that's just my opinionOriginally posted by the Bear:hey kuali, does not matter right?

hey... i tell it as i see it
i think watching a movie with me would be a terrible experience as i'd be laughing at the inappropriate parts
This is the version that i've got.Originally posted by Kuali Baba:I don't know how this thread has eluded me. I didn't get to watch the musical when it was shown here - at that time I was only 8.
Personally, for the movie, I think Raoul's singing voice sounds more conventional but nicer than the Phantom's. I don't like duets but "All I Ask Of You" is mighty impressive and heart-melting.
I notice too that the lyrics of "Music Of The Night" have evolved since the recording by the original cast, and they vary from website to website. Below are the lyrics from a recording in 1987, and the parts in blue are the ones which have changed. Hopefully someone can clarify this.
Nighttime sharpens, heightens each sensation
Darkness wakes and stirs imagination
Silently the senses abandon their defences
Helpless to resist the notes I write
ForI compose the music of the night
Slowly, gently, night unfurls its splendour
Grasp it, sense it, tremulous and tender
Hearing is believing, music is deceiving
Harsh as lightning, soft as candlelight
Dare you trust the music of the night
Close you eyes, for your eyes will only tell the truth
And the truth isn't what you want to see
In the dark it's easy to pretend
That the truth is what it ought to be
Softly, deftly, music shall caress you
Hear it, feel it, secretly possess you
Open up your mind, let your fantasies unwind
In this darkness which you know you cannot fight
The darkness of the music of the night
Close your eyes, start a journey through a strange, new world
Leave all thoughts of the world you knew before
Close your eyes and let music set you free
Only then can you belong to me
Floating, falling, sweet intoxication
Touch me, trust me, savour each sensation
Let the dream begin, let your darker side give in
To the power of the music that I write
The power of the music of the night
You alone can make my song take flight
Help me make the music of the night
Hi, KB! I can't clarify that they changed the lyrics to that song but I did notice that they changed almost an entire stanza in the song 'Think of Me' performed in the beginning when the Primadonna strutted off the stage and Christine Daae was asked to 'audition' for the role.Originally posted by Kuali Baba:I don't know how this thread has eluded me. I can imagine... you told me that The Village was about a 'giant porcupine'.Originally posted by the Bear:well, not just this movie.. it's hilarious by itself and wasn't that good.. looks like they threw a mint into the sets and costumes.. and about $50 for acting lessons and screenwriting?
i was caught laughing at movies like Return of the King, Signs and The Village

I preferred the original 1980's version as performed by The Really Useful Company. The lyrics to that particular stanza were better.
