Why is the radio's reception so odd?

Sometimes, when you stand near the radio, the transmission suddenly becomes clearer. The minute you walk away, you start to hear a lot of static.
Anyone has any idea why this is so? -

if ur radio is cemented to the ground, u can adjust the angle of the antenna or put on an antenna wire extension
otherwise, u just hv to change the location of ur radio -
I've been listening to LUSH 99.5 for the past few days, up to a week, and it was alright until yesterday, when I started to get a lot of static all of a sudden. Now, I can't listen to it without hearing loud static sounds.
When I walk near it, it's ok... move away and the whole problem starts.
I didn't change the location of the radio at all. So, this stumps me. I want to listen to LUSH again!

What i will do is to extend out the antenna and let it touch base with another metallic or even aluminium kind of gadget......and the zzzz.....sound will be history.
