OH MY GOSH!!!!Originally posted by care bear:I read somewhere 1pc of bahkwa (minced ) is abt 400 cals....sliced is abt 300cals......1pc only leh!!! at least also will eat 2 to 3 right....thats almost hitting the days total calorie intake!!!!
yah...sigh...I felt so guilty cos I ate 6 slices in one day just before reading that!!! now trying to resist temptation and control....only allowed one piece normal, and one piece chili bah kwa a day.... but on CNY......I DONT CARE!!!!!! eat, eat, eat!!!!Originally posted by Rhonda:OH MY GOSH!!!!
I KNEW that bak gua was eeeeeevil!! Just never knew how absolutely eeeeeevil it was!!! It's a formidable enemy!!!
But oooooh sooooo tempting nevertheless!
Gotta watch it or else, cannot wear my new year clothes! Ack!!
And so the neverending battle between temptation and resistance goes on...
no leh...I'm the opposite of you I think...I'm alone too and I guess cos no ones looking, I just eat and eat... and still eating........Yesterday, I made sambal prawn rolls - 100pcs (based on the popiah skin) and as I was frying I ate...at the end of the frying, my container was only half full and I didnt have enough to give to anyone!!(which was my intention!!)Originally posted by Rhonda:Hahaha, carebear!!
I used to eat with abandon before I moved out, cause mom would stock up on so much new year goodies and all we'd do the entire holiday was laze around on the couch watching TV / videos, the only stretching exercise being to reach out for food to pop into da mouth! hahahaha!!!
Since moving out, I didn't bother to get so much goodies cause it's just not as fun pigging out alone. I guess, that's a saving grace in a way! hahaha!
Wah... then you'll have a major heaty episode and fall ill for months, man!! hahaha!!!Originally posted by I-like-flings(m):it's always my dream to be in a swimming pool full of bak gua and eat my way out....

wow!!! a fellow cook!!! The raisin cookies with orange peel sounds good!!Originally posted by Rhonda:Hahahahahaha!!!
You made me think back of those days when I had a well-equipped kitchen and spent the week planning meals on weekends. Life was different then... I had someone to cook for and well, I love to cook with love. Since then, I just didn't have the motivation to cook much, especially since I had to give away most of my kitchen ware during my big move a few years back. Nasty memories... but, well, deeply entrenched in the past.
I look forward to the day when I can rebuild my very own kitchen once more! I used to bake some pretty good raisin cookies with li'l bits of orange peel in them for a little tangy bite... my family loved them so much they ate them all up before Chinese New Year arrived even! hehehe!
And then there were those jam and custard sandwich cookies my colleagues wolfed down one year. hehehe!
And in that year of abundance, there were also the Spicy Prawns, the Oyster Sauce Abalone Mushrooms with Stir Fried Vegetables, the Dark Sauce Pig Liver, the Tau Yew Bak, the Chinese-style Pork Chops, the Keema, the Teriyaki Chicken, the Sambal Udang...
I used to wake up at the crack of dawn to stroll down to the wet market to see the fresh catch for the day and grab whatever seafood looked the freshest. Then walk over to the vegetables section and picked the freshest crops. It was truly a year of abundance.

And worse, no idea if it was some clandestine mosquito attack or too heaty from all that bak gua cause a nasty bump also appeared on my neck! It looks embarrassingly like a hickie (love bite) some more!!!! Today, I got some weird looks cast my way cuz of it. aaaaaaaarrrrgggghh!!!
You folks enjoy your bak gua's and other new year goodies but remember, they are all kinda heaty so you'd better stock up on liang teh too!
