Shift Work

Out of curiosity, how many of you would take up a job that requires you to work shifts, including the 'graveyard shift'? Have you ever done shift work before?
I used to have my reservations, especially since I fall asleep very easily at night. These days though, I seem to be an owl at work and when I'm on my round of nights (3 night duties in a row), I usually manage fine on just 2-4 hrs' sleep. I also switch back to daytime easier than a few of my colleagues too. Phew!
One thing about shift duties that I've come to like - I can shop, watch movies, and eat at restaurants off-peak so that means no/less queuing. Used to be that it was less crowded too but these days, even on normal working hours, the public transport, esp the MRT, is still pretty crowded... wonder why? So many folks don't need to work one meh?
So, how many of you are in the same boat?

im now doing shift work.
7.30am - 4pm
3.30pm - 12 mn
11.30pm - 8 am.
yes the night shift is the killer. every 2 hrs mus drink kopi or else will zzz. den when go home slp max can slp for 5-6 hrs nia. night shift is really shack n next week im on night shift... haiz... -

6 days. They are trying out a pilot project of offering us an alternate 5-day week but the hours are much longer for the Morning and Evening shifts with Night shift remaining unchanged.Originally posted by RaTtY81:o0 den how mani days u work per week? -

Last night was a nightmare! I was on my feet for 6.5 hrs straight, rushing about, so stressed out and soooooo tired. No break also last night until I HAD to go for a 15-min break at 6:30am. I was close to collapsing myself.
I was totally exhausted but oh well, lives were saved / sustained. -

was an immigration officer for 1.5 yr, quit last jan
timing is like
morning: 8am-3pm
afternoon: 3-10pm
night: 10pm-8am (10hrs compared to 7hrs for the above 2)
night shift is killer, normally until 5-6am like that, i cannot tahan liao...
totally no-life man!!! imagine sat night need to go work night shift.
Then public holiday need to work, sometime CNY also must ballot....
no life and dumb job, glad to be in IT line right now -

Thoreldan, last Oct-Nov, we had to apply for an entire year's worth of leave for 2005!!! Can you beat that? And if you choose the 'peak periods', it's straight to the ballot. Also, those who are single / married but childless are discouraged from taking leave during the school holiday periods. And to top it all off, we have to apply in one-week slots.
Tell me I'm not a modern-day slave! -

It's my colleagues who make the job bearable sometimes. Last night, they saw how busy I was and they all chipped in to help. They knew I was close to collapsing and my temper was getting shorter cuz I was tired and hungry and frustrated so they quickly rallied around to help.Originally posted by Gackt247:wAH.. slave indeed..
