think many of us do not realise how many people actually work shifts so that the rest of us may continue our lives in peace.Originally posted by thoreldan:was an immigration officer for 1.5 yr, quit last jan

Nah, it wasn't that bad. I got to sleep unless one of the kids decided to go nuts all night - in that situation, I'd have the option of getting on-call staff in too. On ordinary days, it usually worked out to 16-18 hours of work a day.Originally posted by Rhonda:Ged, 48-hr shifts??!!! You used to work two entire days straight?! And I thought the docs here have it bad with their 28-hr on-call duties for about eight times a month or more!
How did you survive, man?!
Ahh... I understand now. Still, 16-18 hrs is a lot of work to pack in.Originally posted by Gedanken:Nah, it wasn't that bad. Does this mean you're gonna eat lots & lots of Ben & Jerry's icecream? Wish I could join you!Originally posted by Rhonda:Ahh... I understand now. Still, 16-18 hrs is a lot of work to pack in.
On a different note, I am sooooo relieved that this round of night duties is over!! FINALLY!!! It was utterly tormenting this time round! One of those times when I feel totally sapped of strength! So, I'm going to pamper myself tonight and tomorrow. woooohooooo!!
I believe in over-compensating for hard work, no guilt allowed! hahahaha!!!
Nope... still very disciplined.Originally posted by SydneyLibrarian:Does this mean you're gonna eat lots & lots of Ben & Jerry's icecream? Wish I could join you!
Poor thing.. do take extra care..Originally posted by Rhonda:Nope... still very disciplined.
I spent a lot of time reclining, with a nice glass of cold drink within reach and lovely music playing, reading my book and mags. Had nice leisurely meals with buddies, watched a movie, bought two lovely swimming costumes, yakked on the phone with close friends. Sheer bliss!
Tomorrow, it's back to Planet Earth with a punishing session at the gym (hope I can wake up on time!) and then to work. It's gonna be a battlezone again tomorrow. But hey, next week, I get to work only four days and it's gonna be night duties again.
Sounds like you had a good timeOriginally posted by Rhonda:Nope... still very disciplined.
