Hmmm I always get really good service from them and no scary flights yet. They are always so accomodatingOriginally posted by foxwalk:Me, I'll never fly Thai Airways. Damn scary!
i've always fly with SIA for flights in and out of Australia...but the incident you mention here is really too much...too insensitiveOriginally posted by Gedanken:Hey, you think that's bad? My sister's friend was killed in a car accident in LA, and his mother went to collect the body.
When she checked in for the return flight, they told her that the casket would have to go back on another flight because they had no space. Can you believe the insensitivity? Here she's flown halfway across the world to accompany her son back on his last trip, and they treated him like a shipment of lima beans. The SOBs.
Eventually, someone at Northwest Airlines got wind of what was happening and offered to fly the mother and the casket back to Singapore on the same flight, FREE OF CHARGE. SIA matched the offer in order to save face. If I were the woman, I'd have taken the NW flight without a second thought.
SIA, world-class airline? POOI!
Yup. agree with SL on this. Tried Qantas/BA once. halfway thru the flight i tell myself i am never gona fly with them again. Really dislike the service. SIA still scores with their almost excellent service on board. But yea... from what Ged said, it is really disappointingOriginally posted by SydneyLibrarian:Sorry to hear about your bad experience with SIA, Ged!
Wow.. actually... I prefer SIA over, say, Qantas or BA or Malaysian Airlines. Why? Cos I don't feel like I'm being treated like a 2nd class citizen, the stewards/stewardesses are polite and prompt in their service, and best of all, I get to choose the seat I want 48 hrs before departure! I also find their pilots skillful in landing (in Qantas, I REALLY felt like I was on board a kangaroo airline when landing! ) Cost-wise isn't much of a diff. (about S$50?) between Qantas/BA & SIA.
I've heard they can be v. rigid with their rules & procedures regarding certain matters, though. That's their down-side.
oh well, just my 2 cts worth
Yah... JAL can match with SIA... MAS cannotOriginally posted by Faye Valentine:Yup. agree with SL on this. Flew with Malaysian Airline when i went France. The turbulence was really scary.. the landing was too... food was alright..service could have been better. Same goes to Garuda and Thai.
JAL was one of the better one that could match up with SIA in terms of inflight services.
Emirates is not bad... But the air crew uniform is da probOriginally posted by SydneyLibrarian:What about Emirates.. anyone tried that yet? They've been winning service awards for the past couple of years... am curious to know what's so good about them!
hahahaha ok.. i see where u are coming from.. i agree with thatOriginally posted by sbst275:Emirates is not bad... But the air crew uniform is da prob
I have taken Cathay Pacific, SIA, JAL, MAS, Emirates....Originally posted by Faye Valentine:hahahaha ok.. i see where u are coming from.. i agree with that

Haha - some of you pray before takeoff and landing. You guys would sure like Bruneian(?) Air Lines coz they lead you on a prayer before taking off!
Anyway, ged, i think you should have asked who's on the other line when you made the first call. I always do that when making any important arrangements over the telephone. That way, i can screw someone when things go tits up. It also makes the guy on the other side think.
Originally posted by lwflee:Yeah, I usually do that, but my better half was the one who actually made the call and she forgot. Ah well. In any case, it's poor form if you have to scare these shaved apes into doing their jobs right.

Emphasis on "TRYING"Originally posted by foxwalk:I enjoyed takeoffs and landings too. I've only tried Air China (too young to recollect anything, around 11), British Airways and Thai Airways. BA was pretty ok, I enjoyed the flight. Thai Airways was a semi nightmare, when it was trying to land, I felt nauseous.
well i dun quite like BA that much. more ex than Air France, less service, and more tattered. Air France is still my number 1 choice.Originally posted by Faye Valentine:Yup. agree with SL on this. GED, I think you only have got yourself to blame for all that trouble that you have caused to your pet and all the staffs at SIA. Honestly if you choose not to fly with SIA, I have reason to believe that all the staff at SIA would be very happy.Originally posted by Gedanken:So get this: in February, Sasha and I called SIA and asked what we have to do to transport Eddie, our cat, to Australia. They said to just check him in as excess baggage.
Sasha called again this morning before her flight to make sure, and this time, she got bounced between 7 numbers, and none of the people she talked to could agree if Eddie was excess baggage or manifested cargo. Eventually we got fed up went down to the SIA office at Paragon, and as it turns out, it was cargo which had to be booked ONE MONTH in advance!
Anyway, the girl at Paragon was great, and fast-tracked it all; it was the scummy morons at cargo who took their own sweet time. By the time they arranged it, the quarantine office (AQIS) in Melbourne was closed for the day. The cargo dispatcher refused to send Eddie on tonight's flight because he hadn't received verbal confirmation from AQIS that someone was waiting to pick him up. All the bloody paperwork already stated that tomorrow morning was the arranged time, but they wouldnÂ’t care about that, would they? Instead, the idiot gave me some cock-and-bull story that if nobody's there to receive Eddie, they'll put him down. I explained to the dispatcher that Eddie's 4-day health certificate expires tomorrow, and if they put him on tomorrow night's flight, he'll arrive with an expired certificate, and they'll really put him down.
By this time, of course, Sasha had already checked him into cargo and paid SIA $150 for cargo charges. I told the asshole that I'd already spoken to AQIS this afternoon and confirmed the pickup time, but the cock-gobbler insisted on his bureaucracy despite of all of the paperwork already presented.
Eventually, it turned out that if I left Eddie there, it would be a death sentence, so I told Sasha to take him back and get a refund. Now I'll have to do the paperwork all over again, and it's going to cost me stacks, and on top of that I've got to push my flight from Thursday to Saturday.
When we got to the check-in counter, I made a point of making disparaging remarks loudly in front of the SIA counter at the airport. The staff were alarmed, but from the look on my face they were at least smart enough to stay clear of me.
Sasha now sees why I'll never, and I mean NEVER, fly SIA - they suck!
Ged, I think the reason why you are getting shit from SIA, is because they are not interested in your business. I presume you are one of those typical Sg passenger who pay for a Y class ticket and want to be treated like a first class passenager.Originally posted by Gedanken:Their flights suck too - of all the airlines I've flown, SIA is the only airline where I've gotten the impression that the flight crew think they're doing you a favour by serving you. FFS, if I'm going to take attitude, it's not going to be from some pissant flying waitress.
Sure, they can add all of the in-flight entertainment they want. From the money I save by flying with much better airlines, I can buy myself a you-beaut laptop and keep myself happy, thank you very much.
Make no mistake about it - SIA treat people like cattle to be loaded on their transports, especially if they're dead. They didn't care if they got Eddie killed, and I'd be surprised if the fatalities from their last crash were regarded as anything more than non-paying fares.
SIA are suckass SHIT!
How bout trying on a concorde?Originally posted by HENG@:LOL. good landings? When I took the Air France flight to Paris, I was barely aware that I've landed. I'm one of those sort of people who enjoy takeoffs and landings, be they smooth or rough, but in this instance, I couldn't even tell the transition of the load on the wings to the load on the wheels. Impressive.
To be fair though, I had one landing which was even more impressive by SIA i think. We landed in a pea soup fog at LAX, and we totally had no idea we'd landed because, although I was sitting next to the wing, the fog was dense enough that I couldn't see it, so we had no idea if we were on the ground or in the air. Yet the pilot put the plane down so delicately that for about 5 mins after we'd landed, most of us actually thought we were still flying.
Yeah, SIA IE is definitely the best in the industry.Originally posted by RSP:My 1st flying experience with SIA was'nt too bad...crew members were alright and i must say im impressed with the in flight entertainment system on SIA.
