World Harmony Run
The World Harmony Run is a global relay, seeking to strengthen international friendship and understanding. As a symbol of harmony, runners carry a flaming torch, passing it from hand to hand amongst members of thousands of local communities, on a route spanning 70 nations.
This is a true grassroots event. Each relay team is made up of runners from all walks of life, dedicating their time to serve a cause they believe in. The teams visit schools, community groups, and running clubs, as well as local and national government organizations. There they celebrate the goal of world harmony, and recognize individuals working for harmony within their own community.
The World Harmony Run does not seek to raise money or highlight any political cause, but simply to create goodwill among peoples of all nations, while transcending political and cultural boundaries. -

People of all nationalities, faiths and traditions have been drawn to participate in this event created by Sri Chinmoy in 1987. Sri Chinmoy believes that sport is a powerful instrument for promoting global harmony. Sri Chinmoy is internationally renowned for his numerous initiatives which have united people from many cultures and walks of life to work for a more fulfilling world. An athlete, philosopher, artist and poet, Sri Chinmoy, now in his seventies, has dedicated his life to advancing the ideals of world harmony and oneness. -
Rigoberta Menchu, 1992 Nobel Peace Prize laureate, lent her support to the World Harmony Run during a visit to New York. -
The World Harmony Run is all about carrying a flaming torch and passing it from hand to hand and heart to heart. By carrying the torch, you will be bridging cultural and social barriers, and all the boundaries that separate nation from nation. You will be the living proof of the ancient vision of having a beautiful and harmonious world.
When I carried the Olympic flame to the Acropolis in 2004, I felt so much oneness with all the people of the world. Each participant in the World Harmony Run will show that the hopes and dreams of man are more enduring than his fears. And the trials on the road to world-harmony are no greater than the courage of those who accept the challenge.
I will be enthusiastically supporting the World Harmony Run. I accept my role as a spokesperson to help encourage wide public participation and to inspire the thousands who will share in this great adventure.

I am looking for ppl who have a varieties of talents, such as flair for writing, ppl who hv organise a sports event b4, poster designers, photographers, video recorders, public speakers, drivers, ppl who hv contacts with sponsers, first aiders, ppl who hv contacts with printers and/or T-shirts makers, average to good runners, etc. Importantly you are also good team player, hv strong commitment and responsibility to carry out a promised task, a sense of humility, some humor and wit, fun loving, mature (not in age but in character) and most of all, someone who cares about world harmony and wants to take the first step. WORLD HARMONY RUN IN SINGAPORE
Changing The World Together
June 18, 2005 7.30am MacRitchie Reservoir
In the early morning of June 18 2005, the Singapore leg of the World Harmony will be held at the MacRitchie Reservoir. Participants from all walks of life will come together to celebrate the ideal of World Harmony in this torch relay. They will run a route of 4.8km around the forest of MacRitchie Reservoir before passing a flaming Harmony Torch to another core team of runners who will begin a road run covering a distance of 30 km. Along the route, the runners will visit various communities such as the Ceylon Sports Club, Civil Service Club, Joo Chiat Community Club and other religious organizations to share a moment of inspiration with them. During which, the flaming Harmony Torch will be passed amongst the members of these communities as each person who hold the torch make a wish for a more harmonious world.
Towards the end of the Run, the runners will visit the historical Merlion Park with flaming torch to remember the ideal of a progressive Lion City through harmony.
This event is special and significant because it strengthens our national ideals of International friendship, multi-racial and religious harmony. It comes at a time when the world urgently needed reconciliation, respect and acceptance of one anotherÂ’s culture and identity. And since this is a global event, where over a million people are taking part, it will make us realize that we are a part of an ever-transcending global family who really want to live in a more harmonious earth home. So let us all support World Harmony Run.
