  FILM buffs anticipating the upcoming Singapore International Film Festival need strike one more film off their list.
  
  The festival yesterday said that the Board of Film Censors passed Writer of O with cuts. As the festival has a policy of showing only uncut films, the 80-minute documentary about the author of a French erotic novel has been withdrawn.
  
  This follows the earlier withdrawal of Masters of the Pillow, also passed with cuts, and the banning of two films, The History of Sex and Raspberry Reich. This brings the number of films removed to four — two fewer than last year's six, a record in the festival's 18-year history.
  
  Writer of O's director Pola Rapaport stated that "the film should not be censored and should be withdrawn from Singapore, especially considering that censorship is such a big part of our story".
  
  The festival runs from April 14 to 30, with tickets on sale via Sistic. — Yong Shu Chiang
  
  Well, this is Singapore...

  So embarrassing for this to happen. Aren't we mature and saavy enough to be given the right to view uncensored movies?! As usual, the censorship board is making a mountain out of a molehill.

  i still remember the fiasco about a violent computer game.. it was sold for about half a year before some mad woman, probably to punish her son for ignoring her after her failure as a mother, complained to MITA about a "violent computer game that is changing her son's character" (yeah.. right... like her parenting didn't have anything to do with that)
  
  well, MITA ran around like a proverbial headless chicken and banned the game.. after the sales of the game died down..

  I was actually starting to think that the censorship situation here is getting more mature because you actually got to see Kill Bill Vol. 2 and American Beauty being released as VCD's and DVD's now whereas previously, these were not allowed to be released because of their ratings.
  
  I was also happy when they allowed the Korean R(A) soft porn movie, inspired from Les Liasons Dangereuse, to be released here uncensored too.
  
  But now, it seems like it's a three steps forward, two steps back situation.
