  Oh wow... absolutely breathtaking! I visited Washington, D.C. in May/June three years ago but missed the blooming of the cherry blossoms then. These trees were a gift from Japan. Sigh... How I long to visit Washington, D.C. again!

  i read somewhere in a book i've lost "The Orchid Hunters" that orchids take about 7 years to flower... and then and only then that the breeders know what the flowers look like...
  
  they would do all kinds of things to it.. including nuking it in the microwave to attempt mutation of the plant.. in order to get different flowers
