A Story about Casinos

Got this in a mass email. Think it's pretty interesting. Though I can't help wondering, "what's the cleaning lady? a saint? an alien?"

It looks like we will be getting a casino in Singapore. Just to share the following story I just read in one of Bernie Siegel's book of four men who won millions of dollars:
"The men went to a Las Vegas casino together and made a pact to share equally all their winnings or losses. The first night, one of the men hit the jackpot. He won millions and brought the money up to the room so they could all sit around and have fun looking at it. After a while, they became hungry. Two of them went out to eat and bring back food for the other two who stayed to watch over the money.
The two guarding the money got to talking about how long their new found fortune would last. They calculated how much longer it would last if they didn't divide it four ways, and decided to kill the other two when they returned. Meanwhile, the two who went out to get dinner were doing some calculating themselves, and also decided it would be a shame to split the money four ways. So they poisoned the dinners they were bringing back for the other two.
When the two men returned with food, the ones guarding the money let them in and lured them into the bedroom, where they shot and killed them. While they waited for nightfall to dispose of the bodies, they recounted the money and started dividing it up. Since they were hungry, as they finished counting the money, they ate the dinners the dead men had brought back. The next morning the housekeeper found four dead men and their money. Before she called the authorities she flushed the money down the toilet so it wouldn't cause any more grief."
Bernie made the point that wealth by itself is not a problem, but if you have great wealth your feelings about it can cause you great problems. Knowing what people can be like, the cleaning woman was wise to get rid of the money.
Indeed, we will do well to always remember that the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. -
Interesting... well, we will know the outcome at 3pm...
Anyway, it's not about whether Singapore will have a casino... It's more about how many casinos!
1 or 2, that's the question...
The stock market has already fully factored in having 1 casino and partially factored in 2 casinos. If the government says no to casinos, oh man, I dread to think what will happen...

it's one of the deadly sins... GREED...
and factor in some ENVY and SLOTH
thing is.. if it's "economic", us citizens will be left with the bill to remedy the social costs... that part is not factored because the amount paid just adds to the GDP...
and that'll seem good but we suffer...
casinos are a no-no as far as true economics go.. -

mighty pissed with the gahmen. should have seen it coming. them masqurading, pretending to decide, comtemplate moral issues... but when they said they will put money into tackling the social ills and the twinkle in their eyes when "multi-billion" project was brought up...
isn't it amazing we've become second class citizens in our own country where we are penalized and discriminated against when we decide to visit the casino.
not a place i would want my kids to grow up in. ooops i don't have kids. -
its all been decided long ago lah...
its just that they wanna put up an act to show that they are concerned abt the reprecussions that will follow if they were to go ahead with the casino project...

actually, how do you feel about being discriminated against in your own country?
had a heated discussion with my dad. He, for the sake of arguement, took the pro-casino stance.
He argued that the $100 entrance fee imposed on Singaporeans is justified to deter those who can't afford to part with this $100 from gambling at the casino. And it's put in place by the government to justify that they are doing something to prevent the undesirable social implications.
With this measure, Singaporeans are now penalized for holding the red passport.
Pls don't ask my nationality, I'm just too ashamed to tell the turth. -
well, i think i will have to face the people out there who will ask why i'm being discriminated against in my own country...

that being said, addicted gamblers will not hesitate to part with $100 to go gamble.. heck! they already pay truckloads to go to genting anyway.. this would be pocket change to them...
smells like week-old fish which ate a decomposing rat...
what if they built a couple of fricken huge mothers of resorts and NO ONE CAME?
would they start to open up to the citizens and start the downward spiral?
one of the lowest days in Singapore history, i'd say
