not necessarily, I used to go to my friends' house for dinner, play da di, take a dip in their pool, have pot luck n enjoy the nite chatting away.Originally posted by Rhonda:These past few months, I've been going out and staying out till pretty late quite often. As a result of this very active social life, I've discovered that my purse gets emptied much faster.
Just wondering... do you guys also realise that your expenses are increase in proportion to how active your social life is?
My friends and I usually hang out in cafes and restaurants. Sometimes, we walk around and find a place to sit down and yak to our hearts' content. I remember my Aussie friends and even now, friends who have studied / lived in Australia saying that there, people tend to meet in each other's house more than meeting out and as a result, they tend to save more money that way.
Seems that in the local context, it's not that common to gather at each other's house. I wonder why. Could it be that we find going to each other's homes somewhat 'boring'?
Oh... hey, that's nice. You have lots of things to do and it's much cheaper than hanging out outside too!Originally posted by Kenashi:not necessarily, I used to go to my friends' house for dinner, play da di, take a dip in their pool, have pot luck n enjoy the nite chatting away.
I oso invited them over to my house to play PS2, makan session n chess!!
nowaday, such gathering oso got cut down liao since everyone got commitment, either work, studies, or relationship. Cannot be like last time, one call n everyone can come outOriginally posted by Rhonda:Oh... hey, that's nice. You have lots of things to do and it's much cheaper than hanging out outside too!
I've promised a few pals to speed up with making my home more presentable so I can have them over and we can all just laze around and watch movies! hehe! I figure I can spread all four mattresses all over the living room, and what with two large cushions, 3-4 pillows and 2 bolsters, and lotsa lotsa soft toys, I'm sure we'll have the ultimate nua-ing experience!
Hmm... that's a good idea... stay overnight to save midnight taxi surcharges.Originally posted by zaxis:my friend come 2 my house, watch soccer, man & woman, eat downstair,

in sg it's not tat common to hang out at home cos bu fang bian mah.... we usually stay with our parents... and it's kinda awkward when someone's parents are walking in and out.. or worse, sit down and start asking qns of all our friends' family/education/etc etc....
Actually, you don't have to have expensive tastes to deplete your $$.Originally posted by shade343:Yah. Actually the speed of how fast your $ decrease depends on what kind of friends you hang out with. If you hang out with friends who have expensive tastes, your $$ will decrease faster than a speeding bullet.
Ah... that's also true! Especially if you have three generations living under one roof!Originally posted by InnoHippo:true true .....
and SG homes are usually small and cramped
Yeah... it really can get quite expensive. So, it's true then, the more active your social life, the more $$ you'll end up spending!Originally posted by sweetie05:money vanishes the fastest when u go clubbing and order drinks, take midnite cab home.
can easily set me back $150-250 per nite.
Hmm... and the MM outings are how often? hehehe!Originally posted by the Bear:and it's heck of a lot worse if we hang out in a pub!
Hmm, ok lets say you hang out with friends who thinks air con kopitiam is high class. You can chit chat for approx 4 hours and probably have dinner or supper. If you do it 4 times a week thats roughly,Originally posted by Rhonda:Actually, you don't have to have expensive tastes to deplete your $$.
Just hang out A LOT for quite a long time in any cafe and that will do you in. For instance, if you meet your friends 3-4 times a week and you spend hours in a cafe, say, Coffee Bean. You each order a beverage, then you order a slice of cake each. You talk talk talk, then you order another beverage each... and that's already what... more than $20. For the sake of the discussion, let's say, $25 after tax.
One outing $25 X 4 times in a week = $100 (per person $50) X 4 weeks in a month = $400!!
Of course, that's just guesstimate. Sometimes, the bill is more, esp if you eat a meal first before going to the cafe. Sometimes, the bill is less.
It's fun to be with friends and all... but going out sure is costly!

Do you think you can hang around in kopitiam during peak hours for that long a period without the crowd casting nasty glances at you and the staff hovering around you, clearing your table very fast and hoping you'll take the hint and scoot so others can take your seat?Originally posted by shade343:Hmm, ok lets say you hang out with friends who thinks air con kopitiam is high class. Drinks(5 cans) + dinner=$12
$12x4=$48 a month
So I guess how fast your $$ empties really depends on the place which you and your friends hand out in.
